Toxic Truth About Being A Teen Girl

Saw this and it just made me so sad what teenagers are going through. The fact that being called a feminist is also an insult by these boys also makes me so mad.

Its not surprising though sadly.

The boys who harassed us in school without consequence are the fathers raising the boys now. They weren't given boundaries back then. Schools just policed our skirts our hair and make up etc. Between phones and mixed sex toilets and prosecutions being pathetic its no wonder its so bad now.

Then everyone shrugs and claims to have no idea why its happening. No ones allowed to put 2 and 2 together with any of it.

I remember boys at primary school

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/03/2021 07:09

Pressed to soon

I remember the boys at primary school peeping through holes in the swim.chage sheds. Pointing and laughing at your pants if u did hand stands.

At secondary you'd just be asked for blow jobs in lessons and called frigid/slag/dyke if you refused .

Course that went unnoticed. God forbid u wore nail.polish though

ItsSnowJokes · 18/03/2021 07:10

My eldest daughter did have to put up with being called frigid etc..... when at shool but social media wasn't as prolific when she started secondary (now in 20s), I worry about my young daughter and how much worse it is going to be when she starts secondary and I hate that she will have this environment to go to every day.

It seems to be something you can't talk about though.

Try and discuss the problem and you get NAMALT. And girls are now taught bounderies are bigoted.

given the recent article stating that 97 percent off women have been sexually harassed, it would seem 30 odd million women keep finding the same small handful responsible...

EdgeOfACoin · 18/03/2021 07:22

Pornography. So harmless. Only an uptight prude could possibly object.

It's so liberating and empowering for women.

Honestly. I thought it was bad enough in schools in the '90s. It was nothing compared to now.

sagaLoren · 18/03/2021 07:32

Surely the solution for this would be to have an easy way for girls to report this behaviour to a trusted adult at school and for schools to take it extremely seriously. Why aren't schools taking this stuff seriously? Why aren't they reporting it to the police? Many of the stories shared in that article involve rape of a minor or the sharing of sexual images of a minor. These are serious crimes.

ihatethecold · 18/03/2021 07:36

I dropped my 17 year old off near her college in Tuesday. She was walking with a friend.
She said a grown man in a van wound down his window and shouted rude comments and hung his head out of the window as he drove past.
On the same day the news of full of stories about women behind harassed in public.

It really saddens me.

WoolOfBat · 18/03/2021 07:42

This made me so incredibly angry. Poor, poor girls.

What did everyone else feel about the girl with the parents who were promised quick action by the school and the boy’s parents in exchange for not involving the police?

I think she was let down. I would have involved the police immediately. And a solicitor. Would I have been wrong?

jellyfrizz · 18/03/2021 07:45

One really fun game in our primary school was ‘pulling up the girls dresses to show their knickers’.

It was disgusting and would make me more likely to go to the police. We are failing girls and women in schools, colleges and universities. I love my 2 girls with all my heart but sometimes I wish I had had boys so that they wouldn't have to go through life being harassed/abused by men.

Yes it is sad but also fantastic that teenagers are now talking about these issues, girls are more aware that they don't have to put up with things, teens are actually aware of feminism and have the language to explore the impact of behaviour etc

RandomMess · 18/03/2021 07:59

My eldest had a classmates DAD commenting on how grown up she was looking and how she looked better in a skirt in year 6 AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

The next one down was very very tall and the comments started in year 4

It's starts as pre-teens and just worsens 🤬

williowrosenburg · 18/03/2021 08:01

I saw the headline but didn't need to read it.

It was bad when I was school and I'm in my mid 30s

My BF developed breasts at a young age. The boys loved to push her against the wall and grope her as hard as they could.

I inadvertently went to a party where I was the only girl in attendance. I was molested.
I told my form tutor (a women) and told it was my fault.

Yet another example of the sexual harassment girls are subject to in school by their male peers. Girls who were forced to wear skirts and not allowed to wear trousers, allegedly had photographs taken of their underwear by a large group of boys who chose to sit next to the see-though glass panelled staircase as the girls went up and down it. This incident happened last week but girls say they have been reporting concerns for years. The response from the school includes the direction that girls should wear shorts under their skirts.

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/03/2021 13:39

I love how there's plans potentially to fit frosted glass...

Clearly a few grand is an acceptable price to pay to keep girls in check by refusing to let them wear trousers.

RandomMess · 18/03/2021 14:08

They could have gone out and bought frosted film and had it done when the complaints were first made easily and for little cost AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

DaisiesandButtercups · 18/03/2021 14:18

The article has made up my mind about continuing my resistance to Snapchat, I get asked daily by my youngest. I was almost persuaded that it is just a messaging platform with fun photo filters.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 18/03/2021 15:37

The law about uniform going through Parliament should include a clause that requires schools to accept trousers should a pupil wish to wear them.

theThreeofWeevils · 18/03/2021 15:51

I would like to see these little sods on the sex offenders register. I'd like other things to happen to them too.

Let girls wear trousers, dammit. Can't believe I'm saying that in 2021.

flyingfoxkins · 18/03/2021 16:12

Kind of makes you understand why some girls might think that being a boy is easier in this awful climate. The uniform went unisex at our local secondary but some girls and parents said that was a limitation on girls who want to wear skirts.

Wtaf? So no consequences for the boys? The girls have to wear shorts as those pesky little boys can't possibly keep control of themselves and not upskirt girls can they?

This is absolutely obscene.

Just put all the girls in a burka and be done with it. Problem solved.

IdblowJonSnow · 18/03/2021 17:42

I had no idea that girls can't wear trousers at some schools. Is this for real? Shock

I've known of cases where boys have been told that they cannot wear shorts in hot weather. So they turned up in skirts. Policy changed post-haste. If girls wish to effect similar changes in their school's uniform policy (though the other way around), if normal avenues do not produce results then they may find that mass disobedience will work. The school cannot discipline them all at once.
takingmytimeonmyride · 18/03/2021 18:05

I had my bra strap pulled many times at primary school as I was the first girl in my year to wear one.

I hated my parents for sending me to a girls school. Now I'm bloody glad I didn't have to put up with bullshit behaviour from boys every day.
