Janice Turner - I bet I know where she’s going today at 6pm

JT on twitter :

I suspect many women will head to Clapham anyway this evening. Will be interesting to see if the Met dares arrest or fine them, given one of their own officers has been charged with Sarah Everard’s murder. What would the Suffragettes do?

Seriously would any other vulnerable group protesting a grotesque death allegedly by a police officer be told be kind, contain your anger, post hashtags online. But ladies: stay home, be nice.

Fuck lighting a candle, quite honestly.

JT as always - sums everything up.

Flowers for Sarah

If I was near enough I’d be going.

Didn’t the police let BLM protests happen last summer in lockdown?

niceupthedance · 13/03/2021 10:32

I will be going to my local event which is officially cancelled. I'm livid

jeaux90 · 13/03/2021 10:39

If I was nearer I'd go. I'm too many shades of angry right now. Fuming.

broccolibush · 13/03/2021 10:41

It's nearby for me. Like fuck am I not going. How dare the police tell us that we can reclaim the streets by sitting at home and being good.

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 13/03/2021 10:45

And me. I see absolutely no risk to me or anyone round me from being on the Common, distanced from other people.

SheWillButRise · 13/03/2021 11:02

Is there a list of where events were going to be organised? I am not local to London either.

SantaNameChange · 13/03/2021 11:20

I wondered about just going out with DD and walking about in the dark.

Wouldn't it be amazing if all over the country women walked the streets at 6pm.

WarriorN · 13/03/2021 11:25

There was a list / map in one of the papers; possibly guardian.

There's a nation wide doorstop vigil, candle on doorstep or window.

Dollywilde · 13/03/2021 11:26

We moved out of London in November and I’m gutted I’m not able to be there. I would be going irregardless, I have a 7 month old daughter and I refuse to cower in fear.

Although my local one makes a big song and dance about women being 'anyone who identifies as such' so I feel total despair and don't want to go.

Women will be going ... who is there to arrest if it has been "cancelled"?

No one ... just lots of women walking with candles.

My local one has been cancelled.

I am sure I will meet lots of other women in the park tonight at 6pm

Lettera · 13/03/2021 12:17

From the publicity for my local vigil: 'This is an inclusive space. All women means trans women. It also means anyone presenting or identifying as female.'

For fuck's sake.

LouHotel · 13/03/2021 12:23

There's no local one for me but myself, my mum and my girls are going for a candle lit walk.

LunaHeather · 13/03/2021 12:26

@gardenbird48

If I was near enough I’d be going.

Didn’t the police let BLM protests happen last summer in lockdown?

Yes and some of them did the kneeling.
Thecatonthemat · 13/03/2021 12:26

Lettera FFS indeed.

SantaNameChange · 13/03/2021 12:27

Thanks for the links - I'll join my local one

ThePankhurstConnection · 13/03/2021 12:29

I just wanted to sat I love all you women going anyway. I'm in Scotland if I was closer I would be joining you. You are wonderful women and this is a terrible shocking incident.

Bvop · 13/03/2021 12:42

My dd is only 10. I want her to have another year or two before we have the talk. I didn’t know about the fear that women carry with us until I was about 13, so I haven’t shown her any of the news.

ShagMeRiggins · 13/03/2021 14:04

@gardenbird48

If I was near enough I’d be going.

Didn’t the police let BLM protests happen last summer in lockdown?

Yes, but to the best of my knowledge BLM didn’t ask permission. It just happened.

The vigil organisers actually contacted appropriate bodies to inform and—I believe—request permission but were told to stay home.

My local one does this too. Cognitive dissonance much. Has really put me off going.
Theluggage15 · 13/03/2021 14:23

My daughter lives in Clapham, she and her housemates are going. She said ‘the fucking police can get in the bin mum’.

I realised last week that I give her exactly the same advice that my mum gave me ‘ be very careful when you’re on your own at night, be aware of your surroundings, have your keys in your hand, etc.’ Literally nothing ever changes for women, they have to modify their behaviour, limit what they do. Just so frustrating and tiring.

WarriorN · 13/03/2021 18:39

I'm watching. Women are ANGRY.

HippopotumArse · 13/03/2021 18:43

A peaceful vigil forced to cancel and now there is a protest. Nice work Met Police.
