As far as I can see Jess Philips quote-tweeted Moran.

megletsecond · 11/03/2021 14:19

I don't have a womb. I'm still aware I'm a woman though.
Her daft follow up tweet was ridiculous.

Vargas · 11/03/2021 14:21

WTAF? I've always had time for Caitlin Moran but this is grade A bullshit. God forbid we don't centre the penis-havers every fucking time...

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 11/03/2021 14:21

Tbh even the way she says "transwomen and women without wombs" betrays her real thoughts. If she really thought that TWAW then they too would just be "women without wombs", no seperate mention needed. But she knows that TW are not just women without wombs, she knows that the "women" in "women without wombs" does not and never will refer to them. She's a coward and an embarrassment to feminism. I'm so angry today that I have no energy left at all for sugar coating my words. She is quite simply a coward and an embarrassment.

The actual issue she had been highlighting is now completely overshadowed.

Her follow up tweet makes me cringe.

Lisz · 11/03/2021 15:13

'Woke cookies'? No. Her anthology from 2012 has a long passionate chapter about Transgender people. It's fantastic.
_

"And as a strident feminist, I’m always saddened by other feminists who rail against male-to-female transgenders—claiming you can only be born a woman, and not “become” one. Holy moly, ladies—what exactly do you think is going wrong here? Having your male genitals remodeled as female, then committing to a lifetime of hormone therapy, sounds like a bit more of a commitment to being a woman than just accidentally being born one. And, besides, it’s an incredibly inhospitable stance to take. Personally, anyone who wants to join the Lady Party is welcome as far as I’m concerned. The more the merrier! Anyone who’s been rejected by The Man is a friend of mine!
Anyway. Since I was an ill-shorn sixteen-year-old on the bus, I’ve found
out that the word isn’t “normal”—it’s “cis.” In Latin, the opposite of “trans” is “cis”—and so most of humanity is “cisgender.” This opens language up to a subsequent possibility: finally finding the “otherness” in transgender fascinating, and useful. We’ll hurl satellites out into space, in order to find new and enthralling wonders—but we could simply turn to someone next to us, and ask a question about their life, instead. We endlessly debate what it is to be a man, or what it is to be a woman—when there are people who walk the Earth who’ve been both. If transgender people didn’t exist, we’d probably be trying to spend billions of pounds trying to invent them."

Well... no surprise there. She is definitely off my Christmas card list, the silly person.

Gerla · 11/03/2021 15:17

What? Not content with grovelling, she also had to blame a "bad" decision on her womb? This is like being thrown under the bus and the bus doing another circuit to make sure it really got us.

nauticant · 11/03/2021 15:18

This applies to a very small segment of the trans population in the UK. It's impossible at the moment to be sure about numbers but a guide would be to think about the 5000 transsexual people in 2004 vs the 300000 transgender people now.

When people talk about this issue they're often a decade or more out of date. They're in effect talking about a different issue.

UnderHisAye · 11/03/2021 15:18

God that passage absolutely bored the tits off me.

How she makes a living from her ramblings is beyond me. Apart from anything else she puts the same chapters and stories into repeated books and still seems to get paid for it.

nauticant · 11/03/2021 15:19

Also, Moranthology appears to have been mis-spelt.

AirportLounge · 11/03/2021 15:20

She just wants to be LIKED so much. It’s painful to watch.

To think I used to love her.

StandUpStraight · 11/03/2021 15:37

Have thought for some time that she’s just desperate to be cool and down with the kids. She’s doesn’t think deeply. She can turn a witty phrase, in a very specific and limited way. That’s about the extent of it.

teawamutu · 11/03/2021 15:45

I adored How To Be a Woman. I'm curious - was it really tons better than this silly, vapid shite or was I just less bitter back then?

RubyViolet · 11/03/2021 15:46

Luxury views and in the same media circle as Damien Barr.

RubyViolet · 11/03/2021 15:47

Taking the Murdoch coin though.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 11/03/2021 15:50

Is she applying that to the trans inmates in female prisons? On behalf of the female prisoners? How kind of her.

SisterWendyBuckett · 11/03/2021 15:52

Thick as mince. To quote our dearly departed Langcleg.

Retinal · 11/03/2021 15:54

We all knew what she meant in that first tweet. She loves using language like that and you may not like her style of writing (I have in the past and have been a fan) but we got what she was saying 100% didn’t we? All the apologies were just sad. I’m sad for her and angry at her (in an exasperated way).

Caitlin can you not see the irony in what you have been made to do. To grovel. To capitulate to people who may feel a little penisy?? I get you need to pay your mortgage but you could have said nothing. You so could have said nothing more on the subject.

SunsetBeetch · 11/03/2021 15:55

Oh she is pathetic. She always was a bit "Not Like Other Girls" though. I've never rated her

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 11/03/2021 15:57

Gah, it's just so depressing. She's being ratioed but serves her right to be honest. Time and again women say something, you think yes this is it, this matters and before you can say TRA she's backpedalling, apologising and 'doing better'

It really winds me up; I thought to myself, god forbid, if it was the other way round and you had a TW who was the victim of a horrific attack, another TW tweeted about the fear they specifically felt as TW, and got asked by a woman to please talk about ALL women, don't be exclusionary to other women.... Do you think they'd be retracting, apologising etc? Would they fuck! That woman would be strung up forevermore, it'd be like a scene out of Jaws.

Sorry, it just has got to me today. In a week that started with International Women's Day, with the exception of the FPFW victory, it has been rather a shit week for women actually. That poor woman, and her family, it's heartbreaking, and we still cannot talk about the realities of being a woman without apologising to fucking males Sad

Kit19 · 11/03/2021 16:01

Caitlin didnt get the memo that no alteration is required then? no surgery, no hormones, just a simple declarationof being a woman is all that's required

No Caitlin, a man who rejects male stereotypes is not somehow then a woman. We're not a catch all place for people who reject "The Man" (god is she 14?)

also you know lots of women spend their lives on medication - firstly the pill to control our fertility and then HRT to control what happens as our fertility declines. We dont get any fucking applause for that though do we?

IntermittentParps · 11/03/2021 16:06

I'd have more respect for her if she'd said '
It was a turn of phrase, get lives FFS'.
