Whistleblower video on how Reddit subs are being closed

According to this person, it is due to spamming with child pornography.

Some people claim that is what happened to super straight. The mods tried to close it overnight to avoid it. I don’t have any evidence of that though.

Attaching a link to Glinner’s fabulous piece about one of the Reddit moderators.

I think there should be a public inquiry into this.

Are this person's subs being shut down? I couldn't make it through the article. Too disturbing.

WoolOfBat · 11/03/2021 10:26

I couldn’t finish it either. I believe all those subs still are up and running.

My understanding is that many moderators go across sub Reddit’s. I have grave concerns about both the mods and especially the whistle blower video. Any allegation about child pornography needs to be investigated. Anyone who keeps it on their computer should be prosecuted and sent to jail. Anyone who forwards it should be prosecuted and sent to jail.

Reddit seems to have some very murky people associated with it and I wish that the police would make a serious investigation, using all online policing and white hat hacking support they could.

If they can send people out in person to discuss misgendering, they can let some tech wizards investigate this.

Fortunes, it works like this.

There's a group of people who don't like many subreddits (gender critical, feminist, women's issues etc). They have their own subreddit where they discuss subreddits that they want shut down.

They create new reddit accounts and bomb these subreddits with hateful material and even child porn. Then, from their original accounts, they report the subreddits to reddit admins.

And presto: the admins shut these subreddits down.

It's a bit similar than making a new Mumsnet account to post something inflammatory and then grabbing a screenshot of it and going to twitter / HQ.

WoolOfBat · 11/03/2021 10:29

I agree Zeev. But the difference is that when people do it on mumsnet, it is annoying and bad behaviour.

Any use of child porn is horrific, illegal and should be prosecuted. I think that is the whistle blowers point as well.

Could we not use the term 'child porn' It is images of child abuse.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 11:20

So from what I understand there is a group on Reddit called Against hate subs. They exist to get other sub groups shut down, like the gender critical one. And they do this by spamming child abuse images that they have collected. And they are the ones that get to stay on Reddit.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 11:28

Which says a lot about Reddit.Angry

Rockinmomma · 11/03/2021 11:41

Pretty much @TheChampagneGalop
I was on there the other day when the supersexual sub reached it’s peak and the amount of vitriol and hate was sickening
Now the superstraight sub has been banned but there is still the superphobic sub, which also infiltrated the super sub. I’d discourage anyone from reading the comments, it’s so hateful and upsetting

Zeev · 11/03/2021 11:50

It's the same as when they banned GenderCritical but left GenderCynical which only existed to troll and stalk GenderCritical. It's still there.

WoolOfBat · 11/03/2021 11:51

I just find it completely unacceptable, horrific, upsetting and despicable.

I don’t want to argue about terms, but I respect that some people might find the term I used upsetting. For the record, I am against pornography as it is degrading to women. To me child abuse is also verbal abuse and smacking (both should result in a jail sentence) whereas sexual abuse of children should give any perpetrators an instant, one-way ticket to hell.

I just don’t what do do to get the police to investigate this.

Just why is such a huge and popular website allowed to be like this? Letting paedophiles (who else collects images like that?) decide which groups to ban. Where is the media attention?

Zeev · 11/03/2021 12:33

It's not only reddit. Even Twitter is doing the same. Banning people for saying adult human female etc. while other people can advertise their "Age of Attraction" on their Twitter profiles.

TheChampagneGalop · 11/03/2021 12:56

True! Twitter, this gigantic social media platform, is like that too. Have there been any news articles about this at all?
