Hi everyone
I know we are all busy and have had to dig deep to help the amazing campaigns of late to protect the rights we have in law.

A fab poster recently reported that Women's Aid have a new CEO who sounds very pragmatic and committed.

WA have launched a petition
'to the government that it requires local authorities to fund women's domestic abuse services/'.

Please could you lend your support to this. There's over 2000 signatures on there now, but they need so many more
I've already signed it and am sending the link to as many people as I can. I may also post in AIBU (bit cheeky I know), as it may help this get more coverage.

Big thanks to you all.

Well, there's thousands on here, let's hope they all look in tonight.

There's an existing thread on this here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4187565-New-CE-of-Womens-Aid-speaks-up-for-womens-services-and-compelling-Local-authorities-to-pay-for-refuges not mentioning petition in the title as threads that do usually get deleted as there is a special petition forum elsewhere on mumsnet.

But please read the other thread as it is partly that the new CE seems to feel able to be bolder than former post holders!

WeRoarSometimes · 10/03/2021 20:18

@stumbledin
Thanks for that. Really sorry hadn't come across the existing thread. The new CEO sounds fab, let's hope as many women (and men we know) can sign this petition.

Good idea. The rule is that direct links to petitions must be on the Petitions and Activism board. It's an anti-spam measure, I think, but unfortunately people don't look on the board very often even if they know it's there. So posters only notice a thread if it's bumped enough to keep it in active.

I don't think it should be funded by local authorities. I wish refuges and all domestic abuse support was nationally funded. I had to go to a refuge and was turned away from several for being from outside their area. Most were nice about it, apologised for not being able to take me, and gave me numbers to try for other places, but one really upset me by being very league of gentlemen about it. It was so hard and scary to have to leave home and feeling I might be unwelcome made everything a million times worse.
