I thought it would be interesting to revisit this article from nearly three years ago, now mumsnet is trending.

You'd think in three years it would have gone out of date, but it seems as apt a description of the dynamics as ever it did. Does anyone from the womanittee have any updates to add?

Bagsie not taking the minutes.

PurpleHoodie · 04/03/2021 14:52

No update. But I'd like it noted that I agree with Diary

It was - and is - a brilliant piece.

Plumps.

But pumps works for the Argos stylee blow up furniture we have for all the extra guests.

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 15:24

Bagsie not doing preparing the furniture, either! Unless there is a foot-pump, anyway.

I'll do furniture (tick emoji)

I do like this

"She’s right. While the work of gestation, birth and mothering hasn’t gone anywhere, the gatherings that sustained it – and scared the hell out of men in the process – have disintegrated. Still, though. There’s alwaysMumsnet."

"When someone who’s up to her arms in nappies decides to question a decontexutalised concept of gender, devoid of social interdependencies, she must just be doing it to be mean."

How brilliant is this?!

I also love the points about women in our modern culture being a bit deprived of an intergenerational, flesh-and-blood female network. The older I grow and the more I read on this board, the more I crave spending time with - even just sitting and listening to - older relatives and neighbours, women I largely ignored when I had the chance and now it's too late. Women who have lived, endured, dared, cared, lost, won, again and again. It's a massive loss to young girls that most of the role models put in front of them by the media are really young complete strangers (and overwhelmingly from the entertainment business). I see now that we are pittted against each other, and weakened, in this way by a youth-obsessed culture.
