Door to door political campaigning can start 8 March - what to ask your LIB DEM candidates

There will be elections in May and campaigning can start 8 March. I thought it would be a good idea to have a series of threads so people can easily create a piece of paper to sit by the front door with issues to raise with each party.

The idea is to make it clear that women are prepared to make a fuss about these issues, and take their votes elsewhere.

Show each candidate what position their party has taken and how you would like that to change.

Research your local candidates if you can, and make it clear you will vote for the party (or candidate) that is clearest on women's issues.

So my starter for the Lib Dems:
Ed Davey thinks a transwoman is a woman. Do you think that transwomen should be admitted to female hospital wards? If not, why not?

I believe humans can't change sex and women need the single SEX spaces enshrined in law to remain single SEX, not gender.

Do you agree with Baroness Featherstone that you don't want my vote?

I think I’d start with an open question along the lines of: “do you think there is a conflict between the protected characteristics of sex and gender reassignment?” And depending on their answer take it from there.

Presuming the answer is yes as LD are full TWAW

These are LOCAL elections

Who do we vote for is not Labour or the Lib Dems ?

If I get the opportunity, I will ask candidates about their views on council funding for local DV services providing single sex services.

my vote swings about because to be a lifelong voter of any party demonstrates lack of thinking. This time it is the ones that are trying to stop road building. If you have kids then you may want to think about that too.

Because they want votes. I also care so I want to know what the candidates think.

What makes you think those women saying they would refuse to consider voting for a party with actively gynephobic policies (which is hardly surprising really) are not also swing voters?

I don't go for the whole 'put your need not to be personally erased and oppressed in law and the needs of other vulnerable women to one side and think about the real issues like housing or the nhs etc first' to be missing the point. It's a good old sexist trope. But its rather pointless expecting women to be interested in your policies when you've first told them you have no respect for them, actively support their erasure, suppression, removal of services and making their lives more miserable and difficult.

I'll ask about self ID as mentioned on the Labour Party thread and use Hampstead Ladies Pond as a reference.

In Scotland and Wales, the devolved parliaments have responsibility for areas such as health and education.

But it is important to remember Local councils also have control over most schools in the local area and trans policies in them including respecting single sex spaces and teaching of transideology. They also are a major local employer so are they a stonewall champion and if so what are they doing to support women's right which conflict with Stonewall's agenda? Do they uphokd the equality act and monitor sex discrimination? What about local facilities such as leisure centres - will your daughter's privacy be respected when using the local pool? Will there still be women only sessions? Do they fund women only groups? Do council run sports clubs uphold fairness in sports by keeping them single sex? Public toilet provision? Appropriate safeguarding? Ensuring children are not exposed to adult entertainment in local libraries? Is your elderly mum able to request a female carer? What about things like ensuring tge civic environment is welcoming to women and girls? Are girls in the care of the local community forced to share rooms with boys? Or for that matter are girls on school residentials?

Women's rights and self id is a crucial issue at the local level.

Almost all are run by outsourced companies over which elected members have little control

Services may be outsourced but councils write the contracts and are still responsible for the services. The services are commissioned by the councils and contracts regularly come up for renewal. Will they look favourably upon those that uphold women's rights to exclusive provision or will they, like the Scottish government, demand full acquiescence to transideology before funding?

As I understand it, the problem with changing Lib Dem policy is that it is decided by the members at conference. (Although I have to admit I'm a bit confused, because they seemed to change their tactics on Brexit without having a conference).
