Passed Congress last night, but only just. As I understand it, chances of making it through the Senate are by no means certain.

Will the upper chamber do something similar to what the Lords have just done with the maternity leave Bill?

And why is Biden, the supposed great conciliator and operator, so hellbent on this? He's an intelligent man, he must have picked up by now how divisive it can be.

Who funded his campaign?

Because he sees it as the civil rights issue of today - often quoting back to LG freedoms, marriage equality and the treatment of black and people of colour in previous generations which are quite rightly seen today as outrageous abuses of human rights.

My take is that advisors presented it to him as the civil rights issue of today in such a way that he was unable to counter it. His tweets show he doesn't really understand it so its not him suggesting it.

For me, Jane Clare Jones has explained why comparisons with previous civil rights issues are largely invidious or false equivalences.

Biden is a little busy with various aspects of his job role, but I would be profoundly grateful if anyone charged with removing hard won women's rights would engage with JCJ's arguments and explain why this is the proportionate solution to trans rights issues in the US (where the situation is rather different to the UK).
