Noticed on Facebook this morning that South Wales Police are advertising for volunteers:

#Volunteering Opportunity - Join the South Wales Police Strategic Independent Advisory Group (IAG).

The South Wales Police Strategic Independent Advisory Group (IAG) performs the vital role of a ‘critical friend’ in relation to our policies and processes. It allows us to coproduce the service we deliver with the communities we serve.

It's a forum where independent members of the community can offer advice based on their knowledge and lived experience of equality and human rights issues in policing and contribute to making South Wales a safer, more cohesive place.

Interestingly the job description lists gender and gender identity as protected characteristics but not sex (unbelievable).

We NEED GC women on this panel. Pleeeease will someone stand up for this?

Thanks for posting OP. We'll share with our members. You are right - GC women, and women who understand that women's rights are permanently under threat, really need to get their voices heard.

Ah! Catch 22!

Slight problem (apart from the major issue of sex somehow not being a protected characteristic as far as SW Police are concerned) is that they want people from communities represented by the characteristics they list. So women are excluded as a specific category - unless they are trans women I suppose.

Sigh.

They can't discriminate on the basis of sex though.
I can't imagine they'll be overrun with applications, particularly given it's a voluntary role.
