I dont know anything about the magazine, let alone the article, but saw this post on line:

" ... The next time you come across seemingly racist or sexist porn, give some thought as to whether the porn you’re watching is self-aware and feminist, rather than simply reproducing bigotry.

The article rightly acknowledges the existence of racist porn, but it is difficult to see how titles playing on grotesque stereotypes such as: “Filipina hooker wants to get knocked up by American soldier” and “Black slave girl waits for master” could ever be construed as “self-aware”, let alone feminist.

The prevalence of this increasingly violent and offensive material is a natural result of an industry that encourages users to seek out increasingly hardcore subject matter in order to achieve the same satisfaction, which in turn drives producers to make content that they know will receive clicks and views.

The fact that a magazine aimed at young teenagers is contributing to the normalisation of the porn industry is a disaster. With an increase in the number of women and girls subjected to acts such as unwanted choking, slapping, and abuse during otherwise consensual sex, it is the responsibility of the media to deal with the issue even-handedly, which means highlighting the research that demonstrates porn has undeniable links to this increase in violence. ... Teen Vogue’s main target segment is adult male.

It is horrific to see what they publish and what teen’s may feel is written for them. But it is not it seems.

Teen Vogue is completely garbage. Has been for a while. It’s a shame more parents don’t realise.

Teen Vogue is the place which published a piece in 2019 on anal sex for two groups of humans: prostate havers and non-prostate-havers.

The attached pictures of the pelvic areas omit, for the non-prostate-haver, the clitoris altogether.

It is such a great metaphor for the ongoing female erasure.

Christ, you could justify anything putting that kind of slant on things. Oh it’s not racist it’s self aware. That woman couldn’t possibly be trafficked, she’s loving it. That’s disgusting even for that dubious title.

PotholeParadies · 01/02/2021 08:27

Does this admonition to (presumably) teenage readers to doubt themselves apply to any other kind of content? E.g...

The next time you come across seemingly racist or sexist [TV show], give some thought as to whether the [show] you’re watching is self-aware and feminist, rather than simply reproducing bigotry.

I remember readership figures a couple of years ago suggesting only a tiny minority of readers are teen girls - hopefully that's still true.

At least one prominent tra worked there.

BraveBananaBadge · 01/02/2021 09:08

To be honest that’s even creepier, tea. Talk about hiding in plain sight.

despairenting · 01/02/2021 09:33

I think you actually buried the lede in the post title given they literally say that even RAPE porn can be fine. Internal screaming. Teenage girls just don't stand a chance nowadays, do they? Online porn existed when I was a teenager too but the mainstream stuff wasn't quite as violent and we weren't being convinced at every turn that porn was great for women too.

Teen Vogue tells young girls rape porn is okay - just make sure it is ethical!

I know that when I discovered that the true target for teen Vogue was males who identified in their mind as being teen girls, I was horrified. Every part of that publication should now come with a warning that it is NOT for children.

And the TRA who writes proudly for it tends to fit the profile of those you see on twitter. They are very active on twitter.

strawberriesontheNeva · 01/02/2021 13:44

Teen magazines have changed a bit since I was a teen- back then they gave tips on kissing, sex positions and losing weight. Nobody batted an eyelid.

CharlieParley · 01/02/2021 13:58

There are much better answers to the question whether it is bad to watch porn that do not involve condemning a teen for doing so while highlighting the issues and harms associated with porn. Much as we do with drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, food, and internet use in general.

CharlieParley · 01/02/2021 14:03

(I'm aware that Teen Vogue seems to have abandoned any pretence of actually caring about its erstwhile readership quite some time ago. So the sheer awfulness of that article is sadly not surpraising.)

CharlieParley · 01/02/2021 14:04

^surprising

I'd like to see the readership stats/breakdown for teen vogue, if anyone knows where to find them.
