In theory this looks great. In practice... oh yes, it’s All Lives Matter feminism. Remember, feminism must include everyone, including your grandad and the kitchen sink. JFC.

“The intention is to forge partnerships across the media, with Stylist already on board to help spread the word among its readership online, and with charities to help make the Feminist Book Box "truly inclusive"...The books in further boxes, aimed at the general reader, will come from frontlist and backlist titles (one of each) and will be authored by writers who are "women or from other underrepresented genders" to explore an aspect of feminism, identity, equality and/or gender from the breadth of Hachette UK’s publishing list.

other underrepresented genders

other underrepresented genders

other underrepresented genders

Yeah, can't get past that.

Oh no, the wonderful Virago is involved, one of my favourite publishers. Who got that ludicrous “ underrepresented genders” past them?

SmallPug · 29/01/2021 05:21

Unfortunately @thinkingaboutLangCleg Virago is all over “intersectional feminism”. For the most part, publishing feminism isn’t feminism at all.

My beige kitchen sink is underrepresented as it feels itself to be stainless. Maybe it can author a book on being crafted dull in a world of shiny.

SmallPug · 29/01/2021 07:02

🤣

I think it should. Minority sink's have been ignored too long... Sounds EXACTLY up Feminism Box's street!

The natural progression is that the next wave of feminism will exclude natal women altogether.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 29/01/2021 23:11

That’s bad news, SmallPug. My shelves are stuffed with Virago classics and second-wave femińism. What a shame they’ve fallen into “intersectional feminism”, which looks to me like veganism for bacon addicts.

Maladicta · 29/01/2021 23:12

My eyes have only just unrolled from reading about this. Ridiculous

SmallPug · 30/01/2021 09:57

I know. It’s a crying shame, but they still do publish some good stuff.
