I just watched Quicksand on Netflix. It is essentially a teen drama but was quite good. I felt a bit disturbed by a rape scene that reminded me of a similar scene in a different drama. Of course seeing sexual violence should be disturbing but there was something very stylised about it, very young pretty lead character - and that it is entertainment that bothers me. In some ways the series was great, it showed the victim in very obvious shock and continuing to see her boyfriend...challenging the notion of the "right reaction". But it will bothers me. I'm not sure I have any great feminist view to add but seemed like the best place to post.
It also showed a violent school shooting, I guess I should have the same reaction to any violence, in terms of it being used as entertainment.
