Well in line with my name I stumbled across this article and on one level thought it was a spoof.

"jumbo news" seems to be about market research but I cant find any info about who owns it etc..

But the mere idea that market forecasts are looking at sex reassignment as a growth market was something I thought mumsnetters might be interested in!

By the way I cant make head nor tail of it but maybe a trained brain can. Blush

Well, I seem to remember Theresa May announcing that she would make us a world centre or something and I laughingly thought she meant as a replacement for being the centre of financial services after the banking crash.

Maybe she did?

Bah, wrong thread! Ignore the above.

That text reads like it was written by a bot, Stumbled!

In fact I see that what it is basically an ad to get those thinking of expanding into this "market" to pay for a report that will show them where the most receptive markets are. ie without paying you cant see what is actually said.

But either way pretty frightening that business is just considering this as another money spinner to invest in. Shock

Or it is just advertising to get investors for Bupa Cromwell Hospital, Mount Sinai Centre for Transgender Medicine and Surgery (CTMS), Yeson Voice centre, Transgender Surgery Institute of Southern California

I looked up Bupa Cromwell and there is no sign of anything trans related (for either sex) advertised. I suppose it could still be used by private surgeons as a bookable space, but I’ve not noticed any reference to it before.

Some of the ones at the bottom of the list are the long-established Thai clinics, so there is no consistency as to what’s included. It’s quite puzzling!

Yes, I’ve seen articles on sites like MarketWatch and various investor sites. They discuss it like any other global market and are anticipating substantial growth in the next few years. This is rather bizarre bearing in mind that the proportion of ‘transsexuals’ has been fairly stable for years but now we are looking at a dramatic expansion.

I guess the fact that it is identified as a ‘market’ allows it to be treated like any other market and pushed to expand through marketing etc which we are now seeing.

Interestingly, I can’t imagine we will be seeing such a push for expansion in the diabetes medication market for example - there would obviously be a push for new and more efficacious treatments but they wouldn’t be looking to ‘expand’ the market by encouraging a sedentary lifestyle and overeating.
