It was such a small throwaway part of the original article that I almost missed it, but The Times put it in the headline, and now it has a life of its own...

LouHotel · 17/01/2021 20:29

I mean the first reply sums it up.

SavoyCabbage · 17/01/2021 20:33

It's a tragedy that all he wanted was some kindness in the world and then someone hoyed a bucket of water on him. 😔

SavoyCabbage · 17/01/2021 20:34

Poor soggy man.

Well quite

I assume NME have never heard of libel, with a headline like that...

Just because some entitled penis-havers on batshit Twitter who aren't used to being told 'no' say it is, doesn't make it so..

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 17/01/2021 20:46

The author mocked an article with the phrase “people who menstruate” in its headline, implying that you can only be classed as a woman if you menstruate

Errr nope! Someone is slightly lacking in the critical thinking department at NME. She implied (correctly) that you can only menstruate if you’re a woman, not that you can only be a woman if you menstruate. Idiots.

AradiaGC · 17/01/2021 20:48

"The author mocked an article with the phrase “people who menstruate” in its headline, implying that you can only be classed as a woman if you menstruate."

0/10 for reading comprehension. Also 0/10 for basic logic.

Godxilla · 17/01/2021 20:52

I wanted to make a comment on twitter, but I use my real name so I decided against it.
And, I agree @WinterIsGone, it certainly has taken a life of its own!

Can’t be arsed to give it clicks. Hope NME get in trouble for that stupid tweet. No transphobia has happened whatever they are claiming
Embarrassed for all of the Potter child actors, must be a real let down for JK Rowling.
I ❤️ JK Rowling

ChChChChChangesToUsername · 17/01/2021 21:01

From the NME article "In the essay she shared in June, Rowling claimed that she might have considered transitioning to a man if the science had more accessible 30 years ago."

Yeah, that's exactly right - if only "the science had more accessible, then I might have magicked myself into a man with it"; that's exactly what JKR said... FFS.

How to misrepresent someone at virtually every turn... What a very, very stupid article.

ChChChChChangesToUsername · 17/01/2021 21:09

This really has me half fuming, half laughing... is the implication that "the science" would now be adequate for a child JKR to decide to trans herself medically, but that, sadly, thirty years ago, we just didn't know how?

SkeeterP · 17/01/2021 21:39

I thought NME had died a death 5 years ago. Shame the only resurgence in being talked about is giving Ron Weasel a platform.

ChattyLion · 17/01/2021 21:56

Melody Maker wouldn’t have carried this shite! Grin

SunsetBeetch · 17/01/2021 22:03

@ChattyLion

Melody Maker wouldn’t have carried this shite! Grin
Quite.

NME is just a comic now.

NiceGerbil · 17/01/2021 23:18

What do just 17 have to say on the matter Grin

BraveBananaBadge · 18/01/2021 07:27

It’s a big enough lie that it’s taken on a life of its own and people just believe it uncritically. It’s appalling. I’m The Ickabog with DS at the minute, and the the parallels are all there. You can’t read it without thinking of this situation.

Datun · 18/01/2021 08:01

I hope she gets the lawyers involved and receives an apology.

highame · 18/01/2021 09:33

Refuse to add clicks, so could someone tell us what the headline is?

Floisme · 18/01/2021 09:45

If only Julie Burchill was still there.

Godxilla · 18/01/2021 22:48

@highame
Rupert Grint on why he spoke out against JK Rowling’s transphobic comments: “It’s important to stand up for what you believe in”
