Nice xmas gifts for a fellow feminist?

One of my pals is in hospital this year, so I'd like to get her a nice xmas gift to cheer her up.

She's a staunch, lifelong, feminist, so I'd like to get her something feminist-themed.

My budget is around £15.

I like this desk calendar, but it doesn't have pictures: www.calendarclub.co.uk/history-and-literature/all-history-and-literature/inspiring-women-who-changed-history-desk-calendar-2021-r262831?gclid=CjwKCAiA_Kz-BRAJEiwAhJNY7zTLGX4dCVJG7MQv2hN1kVBASOluNlMwxwUUNxGdmfTAesTyIGS_whoCzgUQAvD_BwE

I like this too, but I don't know if it's a bit too childish: www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/product/30064/inspirational-women-trivia-quiz-game?gclid=CjwKCAiA_Kz-BRAJEiwAhJNY7zCpLfVxyXs-y2qXZ4BL4jY7TvKpud8YKQCZziwwQeG5HVeGvtmC2xoCgZ0QAvD_BwE

Any similar ideas?

Maybe a RBG T-shirt? Amazon have some nice ones. Or suffragette jewellery (see eBay). —or a rabbit—

There's some items in your budget here (they don't just do tea towels)

I'm very suspicious of "feminist" themed merchandise. I try to be an ethical shopper and where possible support independent shops and clothes made in the UK and the EU.

I think it's very easy to stick a feminist logo or suffragette colours on to what is really mass, unethically produced tat. Remember the scandal of the this is what a feminist looks like t-shirt?

Neither of these trumpet feminism but they are goods made by independent, female artists.

The Jazzy Menagerie earrings come in cute little boxes with an origami stork. The cards and drawings by Ruth Lily Fowlis are beautiful.

I'm a big fan of Vee accessories - makers of feminist jewellery etc. https://www.veeaccessories.com

The Bugler Girl and William Morris tote bags are lovely and the company seems to meet the criteria of being genuinely ethical.

I saw this feminist/science Christmas gift guide - quite a lot within that budget:

I’ve got the calendar, I love it.

There’s also wildwomynworkshop.com & standingforwomen.com.

Is she a mumsnetter? I got the new Sandy draws badly bag from Standing for Women!

GrimSisters · 06/12/2020 08:22

Angela of Wild Womyn Workshop, as well as selling some great stuff herself, has created a list of women owned businesses here:

Omg, a cuddly antibody!Grin(pedantically the little protuberances should each be 3 sticky-out bits but I guess they'd be hard to make in plush)

SillyOldMummy · 06/12/2020 08:50

Get her a gift that is "traditionally" for men? In my house it would be something techy or useful. Think about gifts you've seen given to men where you think "why does no one ever get something like that for me"

The first edition of The Radical Notion? theradicalnotion.org/shop/

ThePlantsitter · 06/12/2020 09:41

The British Library shop has some nice bits including this tote bag shop.bl.uk/products/fundamental-rights-tote-bag?_pos=73&_sid=894b85f44&_ss=r

Persephone books have a list for feminist friends and their books are beautiful.

Most of the big museum shops (portrait gallery, V&A etc) have some 'votes for women' stuff.

Best is Tatty Devine jewellery but it's out of budget.

Jess has the flovaries print for 15 quid which I have. It's gorgeous.

Yay! Lots of nice ideas here.

Has anyone bought this journal? I like the look of it, but it also looks a bit childish?
