Apparently lockdown and its release saw a rise in harassment of girls and young women in the U.K. , most of it unreported. There is a campaign to make it a clearly defined offence.

What courageous young women. Off to sign the petition now.

It’s only now that I’m in my late forties that I’ve aged out of street harassment, which has been an absolute blight since I was 12 years old.

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 23/11/2020 08:51

I'd like to sign the petition. Where is it?

ThreeFeetTall · 23/11/2020 08:52

Glad the Times are reporting this but unimpressed by the headline:
'Women and girls campaign against verbal abuse' vs 'lock up your daughters' Confused

SophocIestheFox · 23/11/2020 08:55

Change.org, but I can’t include a direct link as against site guidelines. Quick google should get you there.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2020 08:56

Yes, I was rather taken aback by the headline.

But I suppose that is all too often the effective result of male harassment on girls and women. Either by their own 'choice' or their parents' or husband's protectiveness, many do live more constrained lives than boys and men.

Terrible headline but I'm glad that the issue is being publicised. My daughter had a driver shout something disgusting at her in the street a couple of weeks ago and was very upset - she is 12 and very obviously pre-pubescent Angry.

I've started a thread on the petitions board with all the links

Thank you Errol.

I'm fucking sick of it. Like bullying in schools this is another thing that never goes away, generation after sodding generation.

FlippinFumin · 23/11/2020 14:29

I am fucking sick of it too. My granddaughter walks to and from school every day, and every day some dick or other has something to say to her. She is 17, but does not look it. She wears jeans and sweatshirts, but every fucking day. I have told her to start taking photos of licence plates and faces. Not that she takes it quietly mind you, she usually tells them where to go, When a bloke approached her and started walking with her she screamed at him. I have told her to make as much noise as possible. What the fuck is going on?
