John Cleese seems to be having fun on Twitter this morning. It may be a cesspit but am quite enjoying his contribution.

OP posts:

"I saw Monty Python on TV when I was eight so now I have the power of veto over your words and actions."?

You may have "seen" it.

I don't think you got it.

(see also: Christians and their sodding "book" ...)

Again with the comments about punching down.
He’s commenting on male bodies in women’s sports and somehow, in the independent they’re commenting that he’s the one punching down.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2020 11:03

Ah, the unfairness of entering into a battle of wits against an unarmed opponent.

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/11/2020 18:10

"What are they trying to say?"

"You have no right to freedom of expression because I own the Fawlty Towers boxset."?"

All these people who either completely missed Loretta or took ‘her’ seriously.

JamieLeeCurtains · 23/11/2020 18:44

Loretta was eerily prescient.

"It's my right as a man"
VulvaPerson · 23/11/2020 18:53

The only proof good enough for them will be a dead or paralysed woman. That's what they mean when they say they want more proof that men playing against women is dangerous and unfair. And even then, no doubt it won't count because it's only one woman.

And women could injure another women to that extent. Seems to be the usual argument for those intent on getting men into womens sport. Some women are stronger than some men. Some weigh more. Some might be more likely to injure other women. See so its actually safer to have men on the team instead of these outlier women. See. Point proven. Oh, and intersex. Casta Semenya. Not all men are stronger. Biology is hugely complex and there is not two distinct sexes. Even if there was, outliers!

I'm sorry, but they won't care. The response will be a shrug. Fallon Fox fractured a woman's skull, openly crows about how Fallon enjoyed doing so. It hasn't even registered with the TWAW crowd.
AnyOldPrion · 23/11/2020 20:22

Thanks for the link JamieLee. It’s a while since I saw the whole scene. It is fascinating.

I’d forgotten Judith... they even foresaw that it would be smart women who would argue in favour in the first instance. Quite astonishing, though of course periodically someone here will come up with an article or publication that shows that this argument was occurring back then. It was just based around such a tiny minority that it probably seemed unimportant to almost everyone. Presumably to the Pythons it was the kind of oddity that would appeal.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 23/11/2020 20:40

I can’t believe that clip’s from almost 50 years ago!

AvocadoBathroom · 24/11/2020 01:33

I love the way he poses everything as a question and then they all go batshit.

SophocIestheFox · 24/11/2020 07:33

I love that he’s still skewering the pompous and the self righteous after all these years Grin

Those who think he’s doing it because he some dreadful boomer anachronism might want to take a look at his early work.

SunsetBeetch · 24/11/2020 07:58

Not a sense of humour among them. You have to pretty them really.

DickKerrLadies · 24/11/2020 08:20

It's not just Loretta though either is it. I realised this when I felt a sudden urge to write "SPLITTERS!" and "fuck off we're the people's front of judea". I've also just been on the KS thread and the latest incarnation of 'here's why GC women are right-wing bigots" but it does make me think of the current state of the left as well.

SunsetBeetch · 24/11/2020 08:29

*pity not pretty Grin

HecatesCats · 24/11/2020 09:04

Agree Dick I've often been reminded of the People's Front of Judea during the Corbyn era - with Labour membership being opened up, the rise of Momentum and discontent in local party groups. It's part of the reason OJ's propagandist posturing always seems so absurd to me. The Pythons could have written him.

Oh my god, that would explain a lot if the pythons created OJ 😱😂
HecatesCats · 24/11/2020 09:09

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy Sophocles

HecatesCats · 24/11/2020 09:10

Mind you, OJ is more of a Reg tbh

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/11/2020 10:15

I like the way that Stan corrects the others when they say 'man' (I mean I actually agree that it should be 'men' and 'women' or 'people') and then when he makes the claim he wants to be a woman, he says, 'it's my right as a man' :).

HecatesCats · 24/11/2020 10:43

Couldn't be more prescient

Mumfun · 24/11/2020 11:04

Amazingly so. They definitely picked up on something going on then.

And have been so enjoying his contributions. Especially when he said that he had other priorities than trans folks: twitter.com/JohnCleese/status/1330419202499473408. A joy.

Eric Idle has just said a very rude thing about Corbyn this morning too, the Pythons still causing trouble Grin
