Well done and congrats to this wonderful group. I too am fully supportive of this group of people and I too believe there is no link between gender identity and sexuality. I keep posting that the most manipulative and successful positioning strategy for trans was to get it moved from being a dysphoria to being a sexuality (which it is not).

By linking the two, the needs of lesbian women and gay men and bisexual people have all been overshadowed and they do not align.

Sadly, I think while most people will agree with the article, the loudest voices will shout it down. I mean, have any of you seen the Pantibliss twitter feed?

Excellent article/ reply. Why are LGB groups being shouted down for setting up their own groups for their own needs? Why should LGB be forced to include heterosexuals if they don't want to? They shouldn't & they don't have to....

Well done, especially getting it in a mainstream newspaper.

When the author touches on how young people, and particularly minors, may not understand the full consequences of transition on their lives (I presume this is involving hormones and/or surgery), it might have been particularly useful to mention the bill quietly going through the Oireachtas which may guide young people (and vulnerable because of age and experience) down this very path. That would be the State lending their imprimatur to a course of action promoted by an ideology which is not deemed by all to be entirely credible, scientifically factual or an objective good.

Annasgirl · 10/11/2020 15:07

There are a couple of letters in the IT to-day about the transitioning medication too - from our good friends (I don't know them IRL but from the boards on here mentioning them) Jane and Sarah. It was in response to an article by Roe McDermott advocating medical transition for a trans teen (honestly, where do these people get off advising kids on medication with NO medical training whatsoever???).

Oh I saw some tweets the other day that clear this up:

"Well actually, straight trans people are still queer"

Hmm

I am glad to see this in the Indo. I thought Emma Kelly's article critising the LGB alliance was very one sided, without any analysis of why this group was being formed. Just virtue signalling shouts of transphobia.
This article provides a counter balance to the earlier article, which is good to see.

The internet is forever. Emma Kelly’s piece was a poorly written (“but as somebody who is extremely online”) obvious attack on the LGB Alliance. It was littered with xenophobic digs about the UK and actual untruths (ie no mention of Barbie & other trans woman in the women’s wing).
I am glad it was published because it highlights the entitlement certain TRAs have in Ireland and how they demand total obedience. She trotted out the “TWAW” for good measure but at least she included trans men, unlike her fellow traveller Labour Senator Annie Hoey.

This article in comparison is measured and clear and sets out the genuine worries that many people have about LGB rights, giving children medications that will forever alter their bodies when they are too young to understand any such impact, etc.

At a time when BeLonGTo pretend to exist to support LGB but say lesbians “primarily” attracted to women I feel there is a great need for the LGB Alliance in Ireland. More and more people are wising up to the woke elements in our politics and media, thankfully!!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 10/11/2020 17:53

Will people one day start noticing that women and gay people tend to speak up for their endangered rights calmly and sanely, while their opponents, who are amassing new rights, start out shrieking with rage and quickly work up to death threats?

Amalfimamma · 12/11/2020 16:20

I was just chatting to one of the LGB Ireland founders and she said

"If it were the pub, I would buy them a pint, they've made my day."

Thank you all for all the support!
