When are they going to admit error?
It's time this pilot ended, it should never have started but it's shown how idiotic the plan was.
@Butterer You must be near me. Fabian is my MP too. I wrote to him about the gender recognition reform and he ignored me Sad
I wonder if it's worth pressing for face to face Zoom meetings with MPs? There's a certain picture building up of younger party activists who handle MP's correspondence for them "sifting out" stuff they don't think is worthy of being paid attention.

There's been at least one woman on here whose MP was fair flabbergasted when she finally managed to meet face-to-face. And if there are aides doing this with GRA stuff, I bet there's a fair few who are "sex possy" types too.

I'd love to see someone from Beeston or Holbeck - preferrably a down-to-earth, no-nonsense working class middle-aged woman - devote the 4 years to going door-to-door building up a following the hard way and standing as an independent left-wing candidate to see if she could oust Benn.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/11/2020 22:22

Great idea to protest by withholding the council tax that goes to the managed zone.

HecatesCats · 10/11/2020 22:33

Agree, great idea Inebriati and would also back requesting zoom calls with MPs as Cara suggests, they can often be won over when presented with actual evidence in face to face situations. Constituents do have the power to change minds if they have the inclination (and the time!).

That's such a horrific article. And I'm so pissed off that although there's an occasional mention of "girl" or "she" it's mostly "pupil this and school child that". No BBC its girls this is happening too, no boys are being harassed and intimidated on their way to school. Absolutely disgraceful that this is allowed in our supposedly civilised country

Agreed - vitally important that reporting is accurate for the safety and protection of those at risk - girls. Words matter. The fact that the BBC - the nation’s broadcaster - is happy to compromise this basic tenant of reporting to the detriment of the safety of girls, is a disgrace.

TW are always named as women looking at you Women’s Hour but girls - they can’t be named.

They might argue that the occasional use of the word girl - is sufficient, but I don’t give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. The BBC have lost all my trust.

Leeds full council yesterday, the entire Labour group, that’s all their councillors, voted against the Conservative white paper, and instead voted for their own amendment, which was:

“Council welcomes the independent report in to the Managed approach and notes the finding that the Managed Approach was viewed as an essential factor in better engaging with street sex workers to improve their safety and health.”

They are morally bankrupt. This is the Labour Party in Leeds. Allowing pimps and punters free reign in Holbeck and then drag queens to read to the children of the city in the name of diversity. They are contemptuous of women.

Here is Cllr Sarah Field’s speech from yesterday. (Garforth & Swillington Independents) and thank you to her for sending it to me:

Lord Mayor, enough is enough. This administration is hanging onto a policy that has run away from them and they’d rather cling onto this inherently exploitative albatross around the shoulders of this city than admit defeat.

The prostituted women of Holbeck are now barely functioning as human beings. And this council has allowed demand for their bodies to spread like a disease. We are now at a point where the head of the local secondary school has pleaded for the end to the managed approach as he fears it is only a matter of time before a schoolgirl is abducted.

Barepunting.net

Go on that website. That’s barepunting.net. Have a look at the —- men on there, who review the women of Holbeck using some of the basest, morally reprehensible language you’ll ever come across.

When there’s no threat of arrest, men not only feel free and cocky and safe. They see paying for sex as a utility like any other, so a lack of consent is just poor customer service.

The opportunity and freedom this council is affording men to fetishise and rape women without consequence informs every aspect of their behaviour and moral compass and affects society as a whole.

This council needs to go after the demand. Instead of free reign for these lowlives at certain hours, we need to ramp up prosecution so they finally face consequences. We need to catch them, out them and shame them.

Apparently we are lighting up the Civic Hall to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Well, I suggest the Labour Group takes that light and shines it over Holbeck instead, if they’re that proud of the managed approach.

Cllr Coupar you’re not dealing with sex workers, you are dealing with modern slavery. And shame on every woman in the Leeds Labour Group, who calls herself a feminist, for supporting this.

The Nordic Model NOW.

Sorry, actual speech here that was given (above was her draft, my mistake)

It is a child safeguarding emergency.

This council needs to recognise prostitution as violence against women and fund proper exit strategies. This council needs to go after the demand. We will be supporting the white paper in the name of Cllr Carter.

Thank you Summer

Of all the possible models to try our councillors chose and most importantly chose to keep this thinly veiled meat market.
Shame on them.
Shame.

Now can we have a concerted effort from all of us to keep this in the minds of those who make the decisions?

The zone needs to go, the money saved can go to helping these women with their problems.

Please email
[email protected]
And tell him you are bloody displeased at the zone.

SunsetBeetch · 14/11/2020 11:18

Fucking Labour. I find the idea of them being in power extremely scary.

TheQueef · 14/11/2020 16:47

With Sutcliffe all over the news it made me think.
If he were active today or another it's like we have given them a shop for victims, click andcollect even.
We've learnt nothing.

Cllr Field Thanks so inspiring. This is what feminism is.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/11/2020 18:38

The rest of Leeds Council are awful, obviously.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 15/11/2020 12:34

Cllr Field is a brilliant woman.

I’m not in Leeds but I am hanging on to my labour membership by threads. Wondering what could be done inside the party structure to force/embarrass the Labour group on Leeds Council to u turn?
I’m pretty certain my (male) Council leader would be horrified.

Internal party stuff isn’t my strong point at all. Will ask some of the women involved in the Labour Women’s Declaration stuff.
