thecritic.co.uk/issues/november-2020/transitioning-to-a-medical-scandal/

Covers detransition, the Kiera Bell case, and the seriously worrying medical issues, e.g. double-mastectomies being performed on 13 year-olds who no longer identify as girls and the negative side-effects of testosterone on the female body.

Really worth a close read.

Thanks. I'll read this now.

Always depressing to read about a lack of interest in good reliable data and a lack of interest in consequences

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 06/11/2020 12:53

That's a very good article. It really is like the lobotomy scandal. People making careers out of it and not much interest in the follow-up of patients and in some cases pure denial.

persistentwoman · 06/11/2020 13:35

Yet another excellent thoughtful article (that will be ignored by the powerful groups).

Absolutely.

I highly recommend watching The Lobotomist. The parrallels are stark

Excellent article.

But it's all been said before and I'm asking how much longer this can be ignored.

Why is it okay for some of our youngest and most vulnerable women to be guinea pigs in this experiment?

PearPickingPorky · 06/11/2020 14:12

It's a really good, thorough summary of the position, and the flaws in the research.

(Could have made more of the point that asking only the people who are still attending a gender clinic is not a very good way of finding out how many people have detransitioned and thus no longer have the need to attend the gender clinic, though)

witchesaremysisters · 06/11/2020 14:27

Why is it okay for some of our youngest and most vulnerable women to be guinea pigs in this experiment?

A very good question. There is a palpable sense of deliberate inaction. The issues are clear - and horrible to contemplate - but those in power seem to be purposefully ignoring them.

Thanks for the film recommendation EyeRollForever, will give it a watch.

That's brilliant, definitely one to share.

When the compensation claims start flooding in and when lobby groups, charities, schools and the NHS are being sued for failing to implement national safeguarding standards and unethical medical practice, then attention will be paid to this outrageous abuse of girls. But until then girls will continue to be persuaded that their bodies need fixing to turn them into men as they try to navigate puberty, autism and abuse and we can only watch in horror. The one positive is that as soon as the lawyers started circling and the government were reminded of ethics and safeguarding, suddenly no group anywhere has ever claimed that anyone might be "born in the wrong body." The speed of that reverse ferret gives me some hope that as the judicial reviews start to stack up, there will be more reverse ferrets.

Yes, that was a strikingly sudden and total reversal. For once the ambulance-chasing lawyers are doing us all a favour. I'm longing to see the whole empty edifice crumble back into the sand it's built on.

Well obviously there is no real interest in detransitioning transmen because they are only women in y-fronts and therefore an affront to trans women (who are the only trans that matter) because they have what trans women want and can never have...
