We have had countless hours of police time expended on hate crimes committed via social media; people “cancelled”, sacked and pursued for stating the facts on biological womanhood; the brute certainties of wokedom steamrollering sense and sanity before them.

Thank You Clare

Nice article. Women's rights are bound up in free speech, well done Clare

Imnobody4 · 02/11/2020 10:19

Excellent article. The story of the young Red Guard is heartbreaking.

CaraDuneRedux · 02/11/2020 10:21

It is a great article. I also found the story of the young Red Guard terrible.

I've often thought that Twitter mobs act like the Red Guards who terrorised China, or the Taliban 'students' in Afghanistan. Thankfully a Twitter mob's power was limited to getting people no-platformed or sacked.

Under Humza Yousaf's regime, wrong-thinkers would face up to seven years in jail. A giant step backwards.

Trivium4all · 02/11/2020 17:59

I find this terrifying. I hope lawmakers see sense.

ArabellaScott · 02/11/2020 22:30

well, Humza is proving himself not the sharpest tool in the box. I'm just hoping that there's enough checks and balances in the rest of the process to stop this insane, terrifying bill from becoming law.

All reassurances gratefully received.

Igneococcus · 03/11/2020 21:34

I might as well hand myself in right now:

MoltenLasagne · 03/11/2020 21:42

That is terrifying.

'Assistant Chief Constable Gary Ritchie, Police Scotland’s lead on crime prevention, also backed the prosecution of private conversations.'

Fucking H. I mean - you are seriously discussing this, ScotGov, aren't you?

I've just had an advert from the Scottish government on my phone. Saying "Transphobes aren't welcome in Scotland" and saying that hate crimes are a priority and people should call the police.

ArabellaScott · 03/11/2020 22:44

Yes, I had one earlier tonight on Mumsnet advert, saying something about 'disableists'. I thought the term was 'ableist', but there you go. It's the most bloody awful advertising campaign. Sinister in the extreme.

Really doesn't encourage me to vote for independence. The new Hate Crimes legislation is really nasty scary stuff.

Absolutely. This is not the socialist paradise we were led to believe the SNP were founding. This is just a scary wee tinpot regime that bullies, patronises and ignores its electorate.
Childrenofthestones · 05/11/2020 05:47

On the contrary, a tinpot dictatorship that bullies, patronises and ignores it's electorate perfectly describes practically every previous attempt at creating a socialist paradise.

ArabellaScott · 05/11/2020 07:51

Well, maybe. I'm not that impressed with the alternatives so far, given the effects of rampant neo liberalism. But I do find it odd how 'love and inclusion' is translating as threats and coercion.
