Trans people would not need medical diagnosis to change gender under proposals to be examined by MPs.

It comes just weeks after the Government rejected such proposals.

I know! My MP told me it was a dead issue because of Truss' previous announcement. But this is definitely expanding the parameters of changing the law again.

In among the questions there is one which certainly needs addressing :
Are the provisions in the Equality Act for the provision of single-sex and separate-sex spaces and facilities in some circumstances clear and useable for service providers and service users? If not, is reform or further guidance needed?

No, they're not clear and usable at the moment, it's vital that any reform or further guidance protects women and girls.

That, and protecting the rights (such as they are) for transwidows to be treated decently, are important.

Shall we all post on the call for action one instead? And let this one drop down?

EyeRollForever · 28/10/2020 07:48

We've been through all this a minute ago! They really aren't going to give up, are they?

Cwenthryth · 28/10/2020 07:55

Sorry we posted at the same time I think I just put call for action to get peoples attention!

The Women and Equalities first trans inquiry in 2016 got us in this mess by excluding women’s voices. They won’t get away with it a second time. We are ready and armed with evidence. Submission deadline 27th Nov.

Cwenthryth · 28/10/2020 07:58

Perhaps the more the merrier though if discussion about this evolves here I might keep the other one to post updates in terms of action we can take, guidance on responses etc so that information is more streamlined?

I am a bit baffled this morning why this seems on first glance to be an attempt to re-run the first consultation though.

NonnyMouse1337 · 28/10/2020 08:16

What is the difference between an inquiry and a consultation? Why are the same / similar questions being asked again?

testing987654321 · 28/10/2020 08:17

Me too. The announcement put self-id off the table as the checks and balances were reasonable, now they're considering no need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

And they are looking at "gender fluid" and "non-binary" people. That's like putting equalities legislation in for people who want recognition that they are special (as in, not like the rest of us ordinary people). Because it's impossible to define non-binary, it's a label, that once chosen, means whatever that person wants it to.

Somebody should report the Women & Equalities Committee under the Trades Description Act. I’m surprised they haven’t switched to Womxn yet.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/10/2020 08:38

They should change their name to the Trans Facilitation Committee.

Floisme · 28/10/2020 08:50

Just bumping the thread while I flail at the air for suitable words. I'll be back later.

teawamutu · 28/10/2020 08:52

This has really hit me hard this morning. I feel like I'm stuck in a game of fucking whack-a-mole.

Any reasons to be cheerful would be much appreciated.

itsor · 28/10/2020 11:41

This is really starting to impact my mental health. It's a full-scale onslaught.

rogdmum · 28/10/2020 11:53

They are asking (amongst other things) about lowering the age for a GRC. I despair.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 28/10/2020 12:09

Why? Just why?

BaronessWrongCrowd · 28/10/2020 12:31

I'm so so angry. This relentless onslaught over our bloody hard fought for rights is, like another poster said, starting to affect my mental health. What about us, what about our friggin rights? Why don't what we think matter?

It feels is the GBT+++ prioritised over everything else.

It's dehumanising. I'm fed up with it and I'm fed up with handmaidens like Caroline Noakes.

Kit19 · 28/10/2020 12:35

the drive to erode women's right is just relentless

when i think of how long and how hard women have had to fight for every single tiny concession

well! once more unto the breach.....

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 28/10/2020 12:35

Maya Forstater’s done a useful Twitter thread. threadreaderapp.com/thread/1321403207378182144.html?fbclid=IwAR11pwvRb6DpvHXOy4Mvsx3LXbp5fDn31rxMT0kJVEu6yrzKXYbflb1lxg0

yourhairiswinterfire · 28/10/2020 12:41

lowering the age for a GRC.

So much obsession recently with children and the age creeps think they should be allowed to make adult decisions. Massive safeguarding red flags, we all know exactly who this would benefit.

Kids aren't short adults, they need to leave them the fuck alone.
