Brighton TRAs bullying Happy Maki (female owned business)

Following on from the thread about the disgusting cancel culture that has been thrust upon a small business selling vegan food....

Happy Maki owner, Anna, declined to put a poster up in her window to raise funds for a Trans person wanting surgery. She has now been the subject of an online hate campaign and social media pile on. She has had to close her fb/twitter business accounts.

Anna has written a post explaining what happened here www.happymaki.co.uk/blog

Previous Mumsnet thread here which is now full. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4051558-Brighton-TRAs-bullying-female-small-business-owner

I’ve been in touch with Anna and she is very grateful for all the messages of support from Mumsnet users in what has been a very dark time.

Happy Maki is currently shortlisted for the best Eco Friendly restaurant in Brighton award at Deliveroo.

Please vote for Happy Maki here. It takes two seconds and shows support. You don’t need to enter a real name or email. [email protected] or similar works fine.

There is a thread on this (or was unless it's been pulled)! I'll try and find it.

PurpleHoodie · 26/10/2020 07:49

I'll certainly be going out of my way to support her business. Have two upcoming events that need catering and she is in the top 3 places I'll be spending at (mixed catering at both).

It's good to know she has heard about the messages of support from here.

There are other platforms she can advertise her business at, including here (And the vile mysogyny can swiftly be dealt with).

EdgeOfACoin · 26/10/2020 07:58

Thanks, OP.

Voted.

nepeta · 26/10/2020 08:03

So she is bullied for refusing to put up a poster by an individual who is asking for money donations completely unrelated to the business of the restaurant? Really? This is so out of proportion that I don't know what to say.

Insertfunnyname · 26/10/2020 08:17

@Trainchoose the thread is full (1000 posts) this is the second thread.

I shouldn't bother, the link is already in the OP

I sent an email and had a lovely re[ly, she said she was sending a generic reply, I was touched she did that, she must be having such a hard time at the moment.

SirSamuelVimes · 26/10/2020 08:30

I've voted on that website, thanks op. I'm a long way away in North Yorkshire so ordering food isn't an option, glad to have been able to do something.

Are the police involved, surely this is harassment?

In Brighton? They're more likely to arrest her for a hate crime.

I think I would take it too the papers. It can't be right to be bullied and harassed for not putting a poster up. No matter who asked.. fucking madness

NRatched · 26/10/2020 16:56

Voted. I read the first thread on this in amazement. Disgraceful that they went after her business for refusing to put up a begging poster (in February)

IIRC it appeared the actual problem was that some employees did not like the furlough rules, so it appeared they tried to find something, anything, to pin on her to pressure her. So decided to do this, as she was unwilling to commit furlough fraud for them Hmm

NRatched · 26/10/2020 16:59

The transactivist argument on the other thread played out in real time too, was eye opening. I remember she was also accused of being 'biphobic' because she believed in soul mates, which is apparently anti-bi. When if anything, believing in only one person for someone is 'poly-phobic', infact saying thats bi-phobic is kind of bi-phobic in itself I would say, as its making out that bi people can't have relationships with only one person?

@purplehoodie that is great - I'm sure she'll appreciate that. So many groups on FB like Brighton vegans all saying they'll boycott her!

It's terrifying.

OP posts:
PurpleHoodie · 28/10/2020 01:15

I'm sure quite a few vegans in Brighton will still buy her food.

Omnivores are willing to go out of our way to support her. And by her kindness, and business ethics, will be open to considering vegetarianism or veganism.

'Veganism' and 'BLM' have been co-opted by the women hating, racist and homophobic crowd to 'legitimise' their 'credentials.'

Anyway. The food looks great.

PotholeParadies · 28/10/2020 01:39

It's hit the local paper.

The piece seems to focus more on the owners beliefs than the horrific treatment of her sadly. But that’s the news these days sadly... too scared to report reality.
