Interesting read on the background of the “women’s” equality party who seem to believe men can change sex to become women, and are firmly in the “no debate” camp. Headed by Sandi Toksvig

Spotted that early and didn't join.

They had one task......

PurpleHoodie · 25/10/2020 08:59

One. Task.

That was all. They've failed. Time to ignore them and concentrate on those who have women and girls as a priority.

My earlier thread - also linking to the infamous MN webchats with Sophie Walker and Catherine Mayer

I heard a lot about the WEP a few years ago. I don't hear anything about them now.
Everyone knows they're just an irrelevance.

A few years ago I wouldn't have voted for a single-issue party. Now I'm very concerned about the loss of women's rights and would love to be able to support a party that stands up clearly for women.

Unfortunately the 'What is a Woman 🤔?' Women's Equality Party is not it.

Shedbuilder · 25/10/2020 09:24

Edge, unless we can turn this round in the next year or two I think we're going to have to ask some women to stand as Woman's Voice single-issue candidates campaigning on this issue alone. They would have to stand against Labour and Lib Dem candidates and make it really clear to the women in their constituency that by voting Labour and Lib Dem they were voting to obliterate women as a sex class and all that that would mean. Labour and the Lib Dems have to understand this is a vote-loser.

Fancycrackers · 25/10/2020 09:25

More wokey bullshit then

JoodyBlue · 25/10/2020 09:25

As such, the WEP are part of the problem, having appropriated the word "Women" from Women. One can ignore them, but actually I think they are actively working against women. The struggles many women face relate to cycles of reproduction, pregnancy, feeding, childcare, menopause. I don't see these concerns referred to by WEP. The group misrepresent who they are.

MerchedCymru · 25/10/2020 09:37

I know it happens over and over again but I still find it astonishing that so many women don't feel that it's acceptable to just campaign for women. We know the stats, we hear the stories, we continue to experience the daily reality of systemic disadvantage and deep-rooted misogyny.

And yet those who are supposed to speak for us have decided that none of this matters as much as a man's right to be validated as a woman.

WEP is just one of many.

Calling their handmaids group “The Women's Equality Party” must be the perfect example of adding insult to injury.

Melroses · 29/10/2020 16:32

That's quite a bit of money - over 30K/yr - they pay him very well.

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 29/10/2020 16:47

WEP have always thought that. It was their backing for Tara Hudson's move to a female prison that more or less kick-started the gender-critical movement on Mumsnet (or at least it was definitely ONE of the factors!)

EmpressJKRowlingSpartacus · 29/10/2020 16:48

I'd just like to add that while I wanted to include the word 'pillocks' in my previous post, I left it out so as not to risk deletion.
