Manchester Hate Crime plan does not include sex - women's reality erased again?

Not from Manchester but came across this news story which includes:

" ... In Greater Manchester, hate crime is monitored across six strands: race, religion, sexual orientation, trans identity, disability and alternative subcultures. ... "

So a crime against you because you are a punk or a Goth will be taken more seriuosly than if a crime is committed against you because you are a woman? Angry

Nope - hate crime doesn’t include sex.

Police and Council in Nottingham decided it did. And it is partly because of that that there is now a consultation on formally including it.

Just pointing out that if Nottingham can, then so can Manchester as there's is a made up list anyway.

The feminism threads just make feel sad and fucking raging. That's so bad. So shit. Why are women being erased (rhetorical). I really should not read these posts. Grrrrrrr

I thought there were 5 strands. I think this means that Manchester has added 'alternative subcultures' locally. Is this a pilot scheme? I understand the Nottingham thing was that they were including sex as a pilot.? Alternative subcultures isn't being consulted on nationally as far as I know. Maybe it's in response to a particular problem in Manchester that the police want intelligence on?

It also says there will be a women & girls equality panel, and also this

"a total of 817 people were consulted on the hate crime plan, with 90% of respondents agreeing with the proposals.

There was broad support for the inclusion of hate against women and girls to be monitored as a strand of hate crime, while age was the next most suggested strand.

The results will be used to inform the delivery of the plan."

So that doesn't match their list of 6 strands. All sounds a bit muddled.
