The National Gallery are giving Travis Alabanza a platform to talk about identity (or something, sorry am very sleep deprived). The same Travis who objected to teenage girls having privacy and dignity in Topshop.

When are these institutions going to start reading the room?

It also features Bernadette Banner who is absolutely fascinating and a joy to listen to on YouTube. I don't know who the other person is.

Grin I love that song. My Perfect Cousin, The Undertones?

SisterWendyBuckett · 12/10/2020 18:32

Oh Travis - they is the gift that keeps on giving.

nauticant · 12/10/2020 18:33

Travis's mate Alok Vaid-Menon:

Will they be making a guest appearance? He can expand on his views about little girls.

SisterWendyBuckett · 12/10/2020 18:37

Alok - now they is less easy to laugh at.

maslinpan · 12/10/2020 19:11

That promises to be such an eye-opening event. The tweet proposes that "our identities are unique to ourselves" - mind BLOWN!! I just ordered a generic angry 51 year old feminist identity online, thinking it was 1 of a batch of about 20,000.
Now I know better, thanks to the Nat Gallery and those lovely young people.

LadySeaThing · 12/10/2020 19:12

My god that dating article!

Maybe it’s hard to get a date because most people prefer someone who hasn’t totally disappeared up their own arse, rather than “prejudice” Hmm

Why don’t they just date each other, after all there’s no such thing as sexual preference and they themselves of course have not a jot of prejudice, so that’s that sorted then.

DidoLamenting · 12/10/2020 19:22

Yes I did wonder why they don't just date each other.

Bernadette Banner actually is lovely and very talented. She is a clothes historian and a seamstress.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/10/2020 19:23

Bernadette Banner is amazing on YouTube.

Here's one of her latest....she made a witches hat to wear...just because she could 🧙‍♀️

ChattyLion · 12/10/2020 19:49

That article is bizarre, incel ‘logic’- They has some Twitter followers and now sex is owed? Hmm

DidoLamenting · 12/10/2020 21:12

Just ignore Travis.

Here is more Bernadette.

olderthanyouthink · 12/10/2020 21:32

Was so confused opening this and seeing Bernadette, love her.

Campervan69 · 12/10/2020 21:45

Ha ha. Time to start ignoring all the boring people and bigging up the fabulous women like Bernadette. I think sometimes the annoying ones get additional publicity because everyone responds angrily. Same with Harrop on the other thread. Let them disappear up their own behinds.

Councilworker · 12/10/2020 22:02

BB is very interesting and I love her videos but she is definitely on the bandwagon as her sibling is trans or non binary.

SilverLetters · 12/10/2020 22:48

I hadn't heard of Bernadette but will look for her videos.

This whole thing about 'unique' identities is just baffling to me. Is it something about being of a generation that grew up online? It's like everyone has to have an avatar - a brand, in a way. I'm in my late thirties so luckily avoided it. It's as though so many of them need constant attention and affirmation to feel validated. It explains the whole "You're denying my existence" bollocks.

I'm just not aware of ever thinking about my identity in that way. It changed massively when I had children but not in a way that requires anyone else to witness, if that makes sense.

Travis is kind of engaged in this type of work. A friend of mine ended up on a workshop with them at the Tate. It was trying to engage teenagers, but the teenagers weren't having it and it was just my mate and his 9 year old. Lol.
