Twitter Communications official tweet today

twitter.com/TwitterComms/status/1312167835783708672

"tweets that wish or hope for death, serious bodily harm or fatal disease against anyone are not allowed and will need to be removed. this does not automatically mean suspension"

12.09AM 3 Oct 2020

So, they could have done this the whole time?

Only to protect men it seems Confused

FindTheTruth · 03/10/2020 07:02

These platforms are so misogynist

CaraDuneRedux · 03/10/2020 07:05

They had that RIP tag showing up in their trending sidebar and did nothing .

Now they choose to act. Fucking hypocrites.

NotTerfNorCis · 03/10/2020 07:23

Yes that immediately struck me as well.

Even if the Twitter bosses disagree with JKR's views, surely they disagree with Trump even more? So why protect him?

Poppyisa · 03/10/2020 07:43

Will the previous RIP tweets be removed belatedly? They all should be.

FindTheTruth · 03/10/2020 07:46

People reported threats to Twitter and were rejected. Threats to Hilary Clinton in 2013, most female MPS, Jo Cox, any woman talking about feminism and women's rights, JKR.

MPs have stepped down because of the abuse

And now within 18 hours of the #RIPTrump tag appearing, twitter won't allow death threats

What about tweets saying you’re going to rape someone?

MsMarvellous · 03/10/2020 08:18

I'm seriously considering leaving twitter all together. It's a hole. But I also get loads of info from it.

DaisiesandButtercups · 03/10/2020 08:45

anyone but by that they mean only men! It is so blatant, unless they remove all death threats and wishes as of now.

I suspect they don't want to remove the threats, hashtags etc... against Trump but he is the US President and they could find themselves in a whole world of trouble if they don't.

It's more about the office he holds than Trump himself. I don't know what the US version of treason is but I'm certain Twitter bosses don't want to be on the wrong side of it. If it wasn't for this I expect they would allow it.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2020 10:00

Well, I guess those of you who are on twitter should report what you see and quote that at them.

Would they want to be seen arguing the toss about rape being 'serious bodily harm'?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/10/2020 11:34

Nah, they're not arsed about rape threats because only females are targeted by those.

Vermeil · 03/10/2020 12:00

I suspect it’s a numbers issue. It’s been easier for them to ignore so far, but the number of #RIPTrump tweets is probably more than the others put together by quite a factor. Corporate laziness.

Just leave. You’ll actually discover after a week it’s info that you don’t actually need in your life.
VictoriaLucas102 · 03/10/2020 23:21

Two actuallys in one sentence. That’s how ----drunk serious I am 🤣

I've just shut my account down after 6 months - there's a lot of good people on there but I just can't stand all the other toxic stuff and the hypocrisy/bias of the moderators
SmallPug · 04/10/2020 11:00

Those who’ve left Twitter - were you on it in a professional capacity? I want to leave but actually it’s a work account. I am openly gender critical on there too. I think it’s important that people are prepared to be - if they can. I work for myself but could lose clients. But I’ve decided that it’s a hill I’m prepared to die on (or lose my work on!). I get that’s not an option for some people. However, I would also love to leave as it is so toxic! Basically, I’m confused. I want to leave for my sake, but want to say for professional reasons (I’ve got clients from twitter) and because I think it’s a good thing to show you can be openly GC.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 04/10/2020 11:08

Well you know the answer to the rape threats ladies.

Tweets about raping DT. Lots of them. Hashtag rapedonaldtrump. Then that's the end of rape threats on Twitter. In fact rape threats against prominent men. Make it a thing. Use Twitter bots. Get it trending. Since it seems that once you start on POTUS the previously acceptable becomes unacceptable. Rape threats to TWAW activists too. The ones that spew out hate against women. Anything that twitter currently tolerates that is used by misogynists. Turn it around and use it against the people who use it against women.

If Twitter wants to be woke then great, let's make sure that includes not allowing misogynists a platform.

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 04/10/2020 11:09

There you go. Change that and you change what's allowed 😎
Impatiens · 05/10/2020 00:11

SmallPug I can understand the conflict - it's such a huge platform and an important way to make your voice heard. I really admire you for speaking out even tho it might cost you, I wasn't on there in any business capacity.

Trouble is, although I learned a lot from other gc people, I also wasted far too many days trying to argue with trans activist idiots and I became more and more infuriated by the twitter bias: the banning of Linehan and others for daring to speak the truth and frequent suspensions of gc tweeters, while death threats to JKR and the RIP hashtag and countless disgusting posts wishing death on me and others go completely unpunished..

I find MN more sane and I know it still drives the trans activist trolls mad with rage so that's worthwhile!

SapphireSeptember · 05/10/2020 01:42

@MarriedtoDaveGrohl I've seriously thought about doing that sort of stuff, and countering things like 'suck my lady dick' with 'suck my lady clit' or something equally vulgar. We've been measured, we've been polite, and I'm sick to the back teeth of the fucking abuse women get. Angry It's payback time! (I'm feeling extra salty today having just seen a Tumblr post from a TRA saying women should be tied down, starved, raped, tortured and have the ensuing offspring taken away from them. Envy )

Side note, wasn't there a Chinese empress who made an ambassador who was visiting her do just that or have I imagined it?

SmallPug · 05/10/2020 07:50

Thanks @Impatiens. Mumsnet definitely more sane! I guess part of it is not wanting to live in an a echo chamber. But seeing all these apparently sensible / intelligent people fall for this is just too depressing! I try not to get into actual arguments on there, which does help. Onwards brave women.
