I have no idea what the Campaign for Common Sense group is like, and I find the description of the event annoying, but sharing it here in case anyone would like to tune in. Smile

Finding common ground on... transgender issues

The Campaign for Common Sense exists to help people find things in common with one another. We also want to equip more people to politely push back against those who would control what they can think, say, or do.

With this in mind, we're chuffed to be holding a FREE webinar this THURSDAY at 5.30pm on the sensitive and timely issue of transgender rights.

Trans rights has become a hotly contest topic in a very short period of time. It's almost impossible to discuss issues without angry activists of all persuasions from hurling abuse at people who don't share their views. This is really sad, as most people just want to better understand things & get on with their lives as they see fit.

We are delighted to be joined on Thursday by Stephanie Davies-Arai of Transgender Trend, and Debbie Hayton, a teacher and commentator. They have been involved with the debate around transgender rights for ages, and are extremely knowledgeable on the various issues that people are grappling with. While they share many views, they also disagree on stuff too - but are wonderful examples of those who can disagree well.

So please join us this Thursday to listen and learn as we explore the common ground on transgender issues!

This event is ONLINE and FREE but we only have limited tickets for participants. You can register for a place - zoom.us/webinar/register/8516001779437/WN_I5yAsAA7T2CtF5XLmnnv4w
You will be sent a link in an email - just click on it at 5.30pm on Thursday to access the event on your screen.

Is this "campaign" going to include more far right ideologies as well?

gardenbird48 · 16/09/2020 07:09

Which far right ideologies do you mean playing

Is this "campaign" going to include more far right ideologies as well?
Are you referring to the fact that being transgender is more acceptable than being gay in some far right groups? Getting rid of gay children?

Bumping up in case anyone wants to listen to Stephanie Davies-Arai this evening.

Perhaps the far right comment refers to how GIRES suggests transitioning as a possible "cure" for autism in children? Dangerous autism "cures" tend to be the preserve of right wing fundamentalist religious groups.

All in all, a very balanced discussion. The video is available on the campaign for common sense's FB page - the whole things is about a 45 minute watch.
