Stonewall dropping the G?

Well looky here, Stonewall appear to be launching an international project but where’s the G?

All around the world lesbians, bi women and trans people (LBT+ communities) continue to be excluded by international movements and systems that should serve them. Out of the Margins is a new two-year international project which builds evidence and global action on LBT+ rights. Grounded in participatory and intersectional approaches, Stonewall is delivering it in partnership with a network of 24 organisations across Europe and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

The project focuses on five main issues where LBT+ communities continue to face severe marginalisation:

Economic well-being
Education
Health
Personal security and violence
Civic and political participation

So, no more gay men then, not even gay transmen?

How much more obvious can they make it that they want to completely submerge women with the male bodied T.

What is a man?

There are now apparently men and non men. How do we define these? What is this bullshit really about?

Nothing to do with toxic stereotypes at all. Nope.

No irony here? No acknowledgement that in the UK, Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand lesbian women who refuse to accept that a man can be a woman, or refuse to accept men in their lesbian circles, are excluded and silenced and campaigned against by Stonewall, Amnesty and many other major players? No acknowledgement that Mermaids and other allies are clearly homophobic? No acknowledgement that many of those organisations try to avoid using the word woman or women where possible and resort to new-speak like 'menstruators' and 'people with cervixes' to do so? No acknowledgement that Stonewall has utterly betrayed the lesbian and bisexual women it pretends to support and represent?

It's beyond shameless.

@raddledoldmisanthropist

Yup, that's how I understood it from reading the link.

You read the link? That's not really in the spirit of the site.

Yeah it's a campaign targeting women (and 'women') written in the usual stonewall gobbledegook.

My curiosity was piqued because I can't imagine Stonewall permanently abandoning gay men in favour of lesbians.
ArabellaScott · 10/09/2020 12:27

3 out of 5 of the partners listed there are focussing on transwomen. So, it's still T above and before L or B. Unless the L or B happens to have the right kind of chromosomes. Also:

'‘I want to see lesbians, bi and trans women in Uganda recognised as women – not only in government but also within the broader mainstream women’s movement.’'

My head hurts. I dare say lesbians and bi women are recognised as women, how on earth would they not be?

MichelleofzeResistance · 10/09/2020 13:21

The L and B in this context don't appear refer to what were formerly known as female people. Or as a TW has explained on another thread, those who should properly be termed either 'non TWs' or 'persons assigned female at birth on the basis of observed anatomical characteristics'.

It's an interesting belief system.

MichelleofzeResistance · 10/09/2020 13:25

Also worth noting that Stonewall prefers female type people to term themselves as queer rather than gay or lesbian, and queer isn't mentioned here either.

RuffleCrow · 10/09/2020 13:27

Shame on them.

ArabellaScott · 10/09/2020 14:28

formerly known as female people

This is how we are to be known now? 'persons formerly known as female'. Is it like Prince, only with the Venus symbol?

Escapeplanning · 10/09/2020 14:57

I read the link and it's obvious that the word lesbian has been inserted into the first page of each country project by Stonewall as the text has virtually nothing about lesbians after the header paragraphs.

This project is all about identity.

Slapping the word lesbian on a majority trans project proves Get the L Out to be unequivocally right about Stonewall.

highame · 10/09/2020 15:17

I wonder if anyone can explain, no, I mean really explain?

Do they think lesbians wont notice and does Stonewall care, after all it has decided to include intersex people, against their wishes?????

MichelleofzeResistance · 10/09/2020 15:26

This is how we are to be known now? 'persons formerly known as female'.

Well this may be the suggestion/rebranding hope, but to work, it would take the co operation and consent of females, who make up half the human race. There's obviously not much in it at all for females, not to mention some contentious issues of respect, equality, freedom of choice of identity, debatable concepts and things like that, not to mention it being a very complicated and convoluted phrase, so I don't think it will catch on.

highame · 10/09/2020 15:41

Just re-read another part because I couldn't find United Nations and there it was, except it referred to sustainable development, so I went and did a check. This is all about women and all the things we talk about here on this board. This is more 'under the radar' stuff
www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/gender-equality/

highame · 10/09/2020 15:43

It's not a trans project, it's a project about women and I think trans is being shoehorned in there
