Leaving aside the very obvious penis, that's an odd set of plasticine models. Comparing it against the "Great Wall of Vagina" (moulds of actual vulvas) barring the one or two who are transmen who've had a metoidioplasty (surgical procedure involving freeing up of the clitoris from the surrounding tissue), no women have clitorises that prominent.

Why, I wonder, is a site supposedly designed for women's health issues showing vulvas which dont' actually look like real vulvas? (Penis aside - clearly that shouldn't be there at all.)

See, I like how they have a body builder in there- women who bodybuild or powerlift seem to always be forgotten when campaigns talk about different female body shapes and muscular women get some right shit about the way they look. A friend of mine competed and I showed another friend her photos and second friend went “uuuuurgh!” Which she wouldn’t have said about an overweight woman or a woman with post partum scarring or stretch marks etc but because my bodybuilding friend was very muscular she thought it ok to call her disgusting. Which it is not.

Anyway, that’s not really what this campaign is about.

Shedbuilder · 08/09/2020 14:43

Isn't the tall figure with muscled arms the one who has a penis under their shorts.

unwashedanddazed · 08/09/2020 14:48

Those plasticine vulvas are really ugly. They look like cup cakes that someone sat on. I understand they may want a motif for their campaign, but they could have got an artist with a bit of skill to make them.

ColleagueFromMars · 08/09/2020 14:49

That's what I thought shedbuilder.

Also disgusted that they don't have a vulva in the plasticine penis picture. Not a sentence I ever thought I'd have to say Hmm

Sexnotgender · 08/09/2020 14:54

@Doyoumind

That middle 'gal' reminds me of a certain cyclist.
I thought the same 😂

Wouldn't it be fantastic to have an image of a genuine female weightlifter without material such as the vulva/ penis images to blur and confuse everything. Women and girls don't have penises!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 08/09/2020 14:56

no women have clitorises that prominent.

From what I understand, body building women who take some drugs/hormones get enlarged clitorises. It's not something I've felt the need to research further than knowing that little fact though.

The penises though - for them being all 'shapes and sizes', all seem to be largely lacking foreskin. Do Aussies go in for circumcision then?

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/09/2020 15:03

Well I hope it’s a female bodybuilder - and a clean one at that.

I follow some bodybuilding/powerlifting accounts on insta and so far they are sticking to the old fashioned kind of women (you would hope if anyone understood the differences between the sexes it would be those who compete in strength training!)

Also, bit of a derail but one of the trainers I follow has a clothing line so I went looking at one of the t shirts and was surprised to see TYPE (eg vest/t) and SEX (only had one, women’s 😃)

MsWonderful · 08/09/2020 15:43

I notice that they use the word penis for the men’s, but not the word vulva for the “females”
It’s almost as if they know that it’s a load of illogical bollocks (pun intended)

WeeBisom · 08/09/2020 15:45

Why do they never tell us directly what “defines” womanhood? Ok so it’s NOT our bodies - that’s nasty “essentialism”. So what is it then?

ColleagueFromMars · 08/09/2020 15:50

@WeeBisom according to the green party, that question is far too political for them to answer. A political party. Refusing to answer a question because they deem it too political. it was months ago and I'm still not over it

It really does say something that for women it’s “women’s genitals Come in all shapes/sizes (including penises)” but for the men/boys it’s “penises come in all shapes/sizes (but not including vulvas).”

Could it be any clearer that it’s a men’s rights movement than this comparison?

RememberBlazinSquad · 08/09/2020 16:10

I tried to explain upthread and my post got deleted Hmm Maybe I was a little sardonic in my expression but it was to prove the bloody point that what 'defines' being a woman reduces half the population to a hunch of stereotypes and ignores the lived experience of those 3 billion+ humans since the dawn of time.

Maybe this will get deleted as well. I don't really know anymore. I'm expecting a dawn raid from the thought police any day now.

RuffleCrow · 08/09/2020 16:16

If it's not my body then wtf else is it? My sense of humour?! My voting history?! My collection of crystal figurines?!

More nonsense after the LB webchat which of course none of us can comment on. How dare she use intersectionality and the lives of black and disabled women to centre males in feminism? That's not what it means, Laura, and you bloody well know it.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 08/09/2020 17:01

The same lot apparently posted something about how to get UTIs treated if you're a transman, which talked about how not to disclose your sex to the doctor if you didn't feel comfortable doing so Hmm

Sounds like a good way to kill someone if you advise them to pretend to be the opposite sex when seeing a doctor, especially for genito-urinary issues Angry What if it was actually an ectopic pregnancy or something rather than a UTI?

CatsFantastic · 08/09/2020 17:08

Jesus wept.

“Gals” ????

I’m not even going to bother addressing the women’s penis.

KatVonlabonk · 08/09/2020 17:24

The people behind this set of dubious content are practising "self care" now because thousands of people laughed at their penis vulva.

Aw, I think they are very young

Ive no sympathy

I wouldn’t have quite such an issue with this load of balderdash if the penis page had a vulva on it

Don’t get me wrong id still think its a load of shit But at least there would be a degree of equity

Self care my arse

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 08/09/2020 17:58

I've seen a lot of genitalia in the three decades I've spent in healthcare.

I've never seen a penis that looked like a sock.

And if I'm honest, the thing concerning most teenage boys is whether their willy is big enough. Hmm

Datun · 08/09/2020 18:03

It looks to me as though they have tried to make the penis and the vulvas as similar as possible, but just on a different scale. Hence the big clitoris.

It's a recurring theme, clitorises and penises being the same thing, just different sizes.

Discussing women's anatomy through the lens of male sex organs makes me almost involuntarily cross my legs.

OutOfDateAppleCrumble · 08/09/2020 18:06

My body totally defines my womanhood, and everyone else’s too 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mammatino · 08/09/2020 18:15

Have they just been into the detention room for a year 7 class and said he’s some plasticine see what you can come up with kids? Then at the end of the day they’ve just been given a load of penises and that’s why the vulvas are all miss-shapen...because they’ve never seen a real one?
