How do you know I don't identify as female?

I don't know if this has been mentioned on another thread or if it belong with the 'this never happens' thread but I find this absolutely chilling.

A woman patted down by male officers at the Portland protests. An observer asks if a female officer is present and one of them says "how do you know I don't identify as a female?".

How do you know I don't identify as female?

It is what they wanted tho-or what their ilk wanted - they need to wake up.
By the way searches on the street in E&W can be cross-sex (no clue about USA). In practise male officers aren’t keen on searching females but it’s perfectly legal for them to do so.

Doyoumind · 12/08/2020 00:25

That UK police officer is basically an old fashioned TV.

Why do they always choose the same kinds of names? Surely if you are Callum it would make sense to be Cally on your 'female' days. Being Abi shows it for what it is.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

CorianderLord · 12/08/2020 09:46

This is disturbing even to the gender-critical. It's a PO abusing his power and ignoring the law.

I feel v sorry for the transwoman who did not deserve to be groped like that.

NiceGerbil · 12/08/2020 10:18

Of course it's disturbing to GC people, this is exactly the sort of shit we've been saying would happen all along.

aliasundercover · 12/08/2020 11:39

Exactly! It's not us who kept saying "it will never happen", it's precisely what we have been warning about since this debate began:

If anyone can ID as either sex at will then there are no longer any protections for women. Even if we accept every transwoman as genuine there is nothing to stop any man from taking advantage of this.

Do you think the message will finally begin to get through their woke little minds?

FreezerBird · 12/08/2020 12:58

Exactly. That's what scared me so much about this incident. Men have all the power and there is nothing we can do to stop them of they can self ID.

We know the lengths predatory men will go to. They choose careers, target single mothers for relationships, build their whole lives so that they can evade the boundaries we put in place.

Now we're approaching a point where they can just say the magic words and the boundaries aren't even there any more.

OP posts:
NiceGerbil · 12/08/2020 19:36

Thing is it's not even just predatory ones.

They will do it for convenience, a laugh etc etc

NiceGerbil · 12/08/2020 19:36

But we've all been day been saying this for years.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/08/2020 07:45

In a weird kind of way, it reminds me of the moment in The Handmaid's Tale where Offred thinks of her mother, and tells her "You wanted a women's culture. Well, now there is is one. It isn't what you meant, but it exists."

Deliriumoftheendless · 13/08/2020 08:43

I don’t know the views of the original twitter poster, but how can you ask for a female officer for a pat down/search if your belief system denies anyone knows who is a man or woman without getting them to declare?

Well exactly delirium
Deliriumoftheendless · 13/08/2020 11:46

Well I foresee no problems arising from that in the future then!

bishopgiggles · 13/08/2020 11:53

I've been bringing this up for ages and get scoffed at.
A woman was rightfully upset when a male-appearing person walked in on her in a female gym changing room. I pointed out that unless you're against self-id you can't complain because you don't know if the person is a man or a woman. People thought this was ludicrous yet complain about women 'bringing trans into everything' - when it could well be a situation with no trans people present. That's the whole point.

As for all the people saying 'no-one will claim to be female to access women's spaces', well, what's happening here? It's arguable they would still have done the same but the fact the cop was bringing self-id into it suggests they realise the potential.

merrymouse · 13/08/2020 12:21

This is why M&S and other companies have made all their changing rooms unisex.

It's not even a case of 'pretending' to be a woman. If the meaning of 'woman' and 'gender' is completely subjective there is no clear line.

highame · 13/08/2020 12:53

This might have been posted somewhere else, but I thought it was really good and well worth a read. Relevant to the TWAW

AlcoholicHippo · 13/08/2020 12:58

The story about the police officer in the UK is unbelievable. How can that be allowed? I just don't understand. I thought it was a joke at first, sorry if that sounds horrible but I really did.

NiceGerbil · 13/08/2020 13:02

It's allowed because inclusion.

FWRLurker · 13/08/2020 21:08

Do you think the message will finally begin to get through their woke little minds?

If Jonathan Yaniv didn’t do it, literally nothing will.

There are two ways they will move the goalposts:

  1. the man in question is a asshole/predator/rapists and nothing can stop them, they’d have done it anyway.

  2. maybe this person is trans and Just because 1 person is an asshole you can’t Discriminate against her.

And then they’ll end by saying it’s Feminists who made this guy do/say that anyway.

I think that may be me you are referring to - I was washing my workout pants out in the sink (started period on treadmill)... it was a dreadful, terrifying experience to be on the verge of passing out (yay endometriosis!) and to witness a penis just feet from me as I felt myself losing consciousness. He was a very large man (a full foot taller than I and at least 100lbs heavier). Fight or flight kicked in and I ran out blood pouring down my legs in my tan underwear in front of the entire gym. There was more to the story (detailed back when it happened in a thread) but I think I made my point - I haven't been back to the gym and I miss it terribly.
bishopgiggles · 13/08/2020 22:43

fire oh god that sounds awful! Don't think it was that situation, it was a gym worker who was trying to hurry the person out as it was closing, if I recall correctly.... but terrible that this happened [flowers[

NiceGerbil · 14/08/2020 04:54

This is sort of relevant I think.

Sign up before lockdown in a restaurant I went to...

How do you know I don't identify as female?
NiceGerbil · 14/08/2020 04:58

Restaurants and bars can free up floor space for more tables with this.

So it's going to be common.

Both times I have been in a mixed sex bog in an old school set up (ie they changed the label on the ladies, still gaps, shared sinks etc) the men I have encountered have been as uncomfortable as I have, more probably.

Place 1 the man said yes this is the right one it's mixed sex hahaha trying obviously to put me at ease.

Second one I came out and bloke at the sink really glared at me. Men don't like ceding space to women on the whole.

When men have to start queueing for a pee it's going to get interesting..

NiceGerbil · 14/08/2020 04:59

Oh this may have been the wrong thread, sorry! It's late...

Thanks - yeah it was an experience that's for sure. I even got called a hysterical transphobe for crying and being freaked out, it was a very affirming experience for the other party I'm sure.
