Jesus Army cult - abuse cover-up report

From the bbc today.

Seems so depressingly common. And always relevant. Cults and cult-like thinking, misogyny and brainwashing, coercion, etc.

'women were historically regarded as subservient to men and treated as "domestic servants", which placed them and children at higher risk of abuse.

There was a culture of "blaming victims" and "reinstating disgraced leaders"'

Content warning - abuse, rape.

Thanks for posting this Scrimpshaw

I wasn't sure whether readers here know this but a certain notorious fake CSA whistleblower, Jon Wedger, interviewed the Krays henchman and born against Christian Chris Lambrianou in a 2018 video.

The voice of a female (Anna Brees?) can be heard from behind the camera occasionally.

In the video Lambrianou describes bringing a vulnerable, prostituted young girl to the Jesus Army, after which where she got involved with the cult. Her story does not end well.

The relevant section is at 28.25

Some readers might find it surprising that a self proclaimed whistleblower against child abuse endorses a notorious child abusing cult. For me it's just a routine event in cult land. Vulnerable, exploited people are "helped" by wolves in sheep's clothing.

I have bitter personal experience of this kind of thing, although not with the Jesus Army. I have no personal experience of Lambrianou and have no idea whether he is a genuine religious person or not. Many well meaning people get caught up in abusive cults.

I feel terrible for any abused, traumatised, vulnerable person who needs help and safety and who is invited to expect loving, nourishing care but who instead finds themself in a cult.

How dreadful. Even more so because they've done it all in the name of Jesus, who stood against slavish adherence to religion and preached freedom and grace. Shame on them.
