Some good news:

Take that, suckers.

Some of us did start the Strike series due to her comments, buying a full set.

AuldFox · 21/07/2020 13:42

Ahaha haha haha!

That is all.

Biscuit
AuldFox · 21/07/2020 13:43

Oops I meant Smile

TRAs can have the biscuit as a consolation prize.

thehumanformerlyknownasfemale · 21/07/2020 13:48

Remember Mermaids trying to kick her with their spiteful comment about book sales? Bet they feel like right dicks now.

Still won't shut the TRAs up though, I bet. They've proven themselves to be blind when it comes to facts. They'll keep parroting that her book sales are plummeting, because it makes them feel good. It's tragic really.

Collidascope · 21/07/2020 13:53

It doesn't surprise me. I've spoken to so many people who had no idea about this debate before. Without exception, the responses have been a bemused version of, "I don't think she said anything wrong. Do you...?"

MrsSlocombesPussy · 21/07/2020 13:55

I'm really enjoying the Cormoran Strike books, on my 3rd one now. Isn't the latest one out soon? I may splash out on a hardback!

Pudmyboy · 21/07/2020 13:57

Glad to see this, did see something reported in Variety saying her sales were not as high as expected (though reported as a loss in the headline). Like maidmorion I intend to buy the Strike set at full price (and am looking forward to the next one: out September I believe)

RoyalCorgi · 21/07/2020 13:59

I love the Cormoran Strike books too, MrsSlocombesPussy, and have ordered the next one, which is due out in September, as Pudmyboy says.

Oh no, have they been caught out MAKING STUFF UP AGAIN?!

Surely not...

CallarMorvern · 21/07/2020 14:05

I'm glad to hear this 🙂 Was also pondering about jumping into the Cormoran Strike books, but wasn't sure they would be my kind of thing. Good to hear your positive reviews.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/07/2020 14:08

Just wait until The Ickabog is released worldwide. I suspect it will be at the top of the children's book charts for a while.

ListeningQuietly · 21/07/2020 14:10

Kids who like Harry Potter do not care about Trans
colour me surprised

Collidascope · 21/07/2020 14:14

I read the Strike books recently too. Really enjoyed them. As with Harry Potter, the power in in how well plotted they are. They'll never win the Booker 😉 but they hook you in.

Roseburn · 21/07/2020 14:15

Ive just bought and read all the Cormoran Strike books. Great lockdown reading. Looking forward to the new one coming out.

JellySlice · 21/07/2020 14:17

It'll be all those outraged TRAs buying her books in order to burn them.

('Cos they cant bear to burn the copies they cherished as children. No doubt now safely hidden away at the break of the wardrobe - their shameful little secret stash of joy.)

Datun · 21/07/2020 14:28

Of course they're not. Most people have no idea what's going on and when they do, they simply don't understand why anyone disagrees with her. It's more bemusement than anything else.

It's interesting that Bloomsbury wanted to mention it, though.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 21/07/2020 14:36

If she never, ever, sold another book, she'd still not exactly be rooting down the back of the sofa to feed the gas meter, would she?

Anyway, I bought the entire HP set on Kindle (had the books in hardback but passed them on years ago once my dc outgrew them). Had a lovely week curled up with the cat & a brew binge reading them.

Might give the Cormoran Strike ones a go - not my usual sort of thing, but I keep hearing that they're great.

Cattiwampus · 21/07/2020 14:41

The American website Book Riot recommended Cormorant Strike as a top 10 detective list choice, despite being an excruciatingly woke group.

FFSFFSFFS · 21/07/2020 14:50

Still irritating that the phrase Women's Rights was used exactly zero times in the article. That being her key point.

Joisanofthedales · 21/07/2020 14:59

Not a Harry Potter fan but love love love the Comorant Strike books.
Poor TRAs. No ones taking any notice of their book burning, witch finding antics.

AuntyPasta · 21/07/2020 15:07

No mention of women’s rights at all. Apparently JK Rowling wrote ’expressing “deep concerns” about transgender rights’ Not concerns about protecting the existing rights of women and girls. It’s all in the framing isn’t it. I think I’ve finally peak Guardianed.

FFSFFSFFS · 21/07/2020 15:17

@AuntyPasta - its one of the things that has fucked me off the most about the whole thing. I have not found a single article in the mainstream press that refers to women and girls' rights. The framing of it has been ludicrous.

If it wasn't so upsetting - it would be such an interesting phenomenon. The Cultural Revolution right before our eyes.

AuntyPasta · 21/07/2020 15:23

They’re not even trying to be balanced.

lakesidesummer · 21/07/2020 15:32

I noticed the total lack of balance in the reporting.
But I think this stuff is huge on Twitter and sails over the heads of most families buying books.

Beamur · 21/07/2020 16:08

I think the Graun is more likely to fail than JK Rowling be less successful.
