Pride Power list

To be published in the Guardian tomorrow.

https://www.pridepowerlist.com/the-list-2020.html

A few controversial ones. Philip Schofield for one. Being blackmailed out the closet is something to celebrate? Really?

But mainly disappointed to see Peter Tatchell at number 2. For those who aren't aware he wrote a letter to the Guardian back in 1997 saying sex between adults and children could be enjoyable.

Glad to see the power couples dominated by lesbians though Smile

Sappho, I don't disagree with your position here, but to clarify, upthread you said scanning through the list, you felt particularly proud to be LGBT. Is there a typo in that post, because it seems a bit at odds with your other posts on this thread? I mean, I don't particularly feel proud to be a lesbian based on that list, no, and most of your posts this thread seem disappointed in the same vein. Have I misunderstood?

SapphosRock · 11/07/2020 11:09

Oh well spotted FloralBunting I meant to say I don't feel proud to be LGBT looking at the list. Blame the sleep deprivation.

So Ben Hunte "broke the news of HRH Prince William supporting a hypothetical LGBTQI royal."

How is it news to report something that is hypothetical? I'm stunned that this is somehow seen as an achievement worth mentioning!

FloralBunting · 11/07/2020 12:16

Ah, ok Sappho. In that case I think we're largely on the same page with this one.

Re; Ben Hunte. I agree that he is a mediocre 'journalist' and yes, reporting that Prince William saying that he wouldn't be an arse if someone in his family came out to him is not an impressive scoop, but he is (bafflingly) a very powerful person right now.

And that's kind of how I'm reading this list - I don't feel connected, or admire a great percentage of people on that list, and Tatchell is indeed one of the number that I actually actively disrespect, but there is no denying that they are all influential and powerful people. Great power, great responsibility and all that. I don't think the majority, certainly of the top ten there, are using their power in admirable ways, tbh.

But that's equality for you, I guess. LGB and T people are no more inherently virtuous that people who don't come into those categories, so there's no reason why a list of powerful LGB and T people would include people I'd consider admirable too, any more than a list of powerful heterosexual people.

gardenbird48 · 11/07/2020 12:18

indeed @FloralBunting - I'm not sure if I should link to it here but if you were to google Peter Tatchell Lee 14 interview, the article he wrote comes up on his personal website. Since I last read it, the jist of it seems to have changed slightly - he emphasises that he is talking about sex between two people under the age of 16, in this case a 14 yr old wants to be able to have a gay boyfriend but when I first came upon this article a couple of months ago, it was talking about a 14 yo wanting to be with his 29 yo boyfriend (I remember it because I was so horrified) and was very much about adults having sex with children - is there any way to check the edit history on such articles? Is he trying to clean up his image and distance himself from the PIE ideals?

Jameela, LOJ and Tatchell...it’s like my nightmare dinner party come to life!

SophocIestheFox · 11/07/2020 12:22

Is child abuse now less controversial than being GC?!

Yep. This is more or less the current state of affairs.

The word “groomer” can get you banned from Twitter, but endorsing Desmond is Amazing absolutely won’t.

You can check the waybackmachine to see if it was archived - sometimes it is.

FloralBunting · 11/07/2020 12:42

I would be very surprised if there were no screenshots or archived copies of the original, tbh, it made enough waves to have a few threads on here at least.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 11/07/2020 13:00

Oh thank fuck

Other posters have posted

I really wanted to say that I completely agreed with the peter tatchell comment sappho

But i couldn't cos id already posted 3 times!

SapphosRock · 11/07/2020 13:42

@gardenbird48 that 'Lee' interview has always given me the creeps. Lee has never gone public so I'm not sure if he's a fantasy made up by Tatchell.

Lee is 14. He’s been having sex with boys since the age of eight, and with men since he was 12.

Wearing a white T-shirt and combat trousers, his sophisticated gay image makes him look older than 14. He comes across as bright, articulate, sure of himself, and mature beyond his years. It’s hard to imagine anyone getting away with taking advantage of him.

Nope. Creepy as fuck.

Jameela, LOJ and Tatchell...it’s like my nightmare dinner party come to life!

Christ, can you imagine it? Tatchell would be talking about how 9 year olds having sex with adults is fine and dandy, Jameela would be going on about how awful it is that Karen White isn't accepted as a woman because of their 'broad shoulders', and LOJ would occasionally look up from Twitter to nod along and pipe up about 'anti-trans right wing extremist hate groups'.

HopeClearwater · 11/07/2020 14:31

Graf ‘fathered a child using his eggs’???

FFS. This must be how being brainwashed feels at the beginning.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/07/2020 14:42

"How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?"
"Four."
"And if the Party says that it is not four but five -- then how many?"
"Four."
The word ended in a gasp of pain.

I think of this often now.

Shedbuilder · 11/07/2020 15:36

Ben Hunte — is he the BBC reporter who is constantly having to have his biassed and erroneous statements removed? So at number 1 we have a crap journalist who can't abide by the BBC's impartiality rules and has had his work removed and rewritten for accuracy countless times. But he's gay and BAME and so he's presumably untouchable. That's really embarrassing, isn't it?

What a shit list. When you think of all the professors and business leaders and politicians and experts they could have included but didn't. I wonder if lots refused the invitation?
