Why does medicine treat women like men?

A friend forward this to me today and I found it fascinating; I have always felt women were treated differently but I hadn't realised how deep the problems are

Yep it's shocking. Sexism is entrenched in everything.

Medicine treats men as the gold standard. Women are just a byproduct of some sort I think.

I completely agree. I saw Dr Hilary Jones being interviewed once about some breakthrough in medicine after some conclusive tests on young men. The interviewer asked whether this also had the same implications for women. He really rudely dismissed her - something along the lines of that question being irrelevant. Doesnt sound that bad but I remember at the time thinking what a dick.
