Feed the trolls?

Sorry if this has been covered before, I did a cursory search but couldn’t find anything.
When we have ploppers/trolls invade the boards what does everyone think is the best strategy? We’re always told on other boards to ‘not feed the trolls’ and that would be the tack I would instinctively back.
However..... does this then edge into #nodebate territory? Do we become as rigidly stubborn as the TRA’s?
I’m totally stumped for an answer and was wondering what everyone else thinks.

@ScrimpshawTheSecond

not to engage if you can't do so calmly.

Thank you, all computers should probably have this engraved across the screen.

I think this is fantastic advice.

I also know as a previous lurker to forums, I've had my mind changed so many times when people have rationally any calmly and corrected whatever outrageous claims a 'troll' has made.

It depends on the language and tone.
I have to leave if people start using language that triggers my identity issues as I've recently left an abusive relationship.

I try not to think of them as trolls. I've done what they're doing. Some of the women on here do such a fabulous job of articulating themselves that even those who dont have the experience I have often put my feelings into words anyway.

If they wont listen to that then it's not time for them to see but their time will come.

I plan on starting some sort of channel for discussion when my head is more straight.
