Richard Madeley-advice in the paper *abuse warning*

Hopefully you can see the article below but if not the general jist is this.
A reader wrote in to say she's hearing banging and crashing from her neighbours at night time and is worried something is going on.
Richard then advices that if the abuse was that serious she would have seen black eyes and cut lips. He then went onto say don't worry they will be fine. If they were going to kill each other they would had done so by now.
This was in the telegraph. What the hell is this advice!!! It's stupid and dangerous. Pretty much saying we'll abuse could be happening but oh well they aren't dead so will be fine.
This man is a complete tool. And I bet he's not clean cut either, the way he's spoke to him wife before in the past.
What about emotional and sexual abuse you don't see that on a person.

What on earth qualifies him to give advice on something as serious as this?
Why is it now fashionable to ask completely unsuitable people to comment on stuff they know nothing about?

Helmetbymidnight · 01/07/2020 12:18

I saw this the other day, sorry I didn't get back to the thread.

I see he has apologised unreservedly on Twitter and proposes to educate himself on the subject.

It is silly that he is in this position - absolutely unqualified - given a massive platform to promote poor advice.
He should resign - not as punishment but so that someone with experience and training could take his place.

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 01/07/2020 12:20

Absolutely irresponsible and dangerous message. Worrying that this is being published in a national, widely read newspaper.

Of all the people on the planet to seek advice from - Richard Madeley?!?! Cheerful bloke but utterly unqualified and none too bright.

JudyGemstone · 01/07/2020 12:27

I always thought those columns must be made up! Who would write to Richard fucking Madeley of all people for advice on anything?

Tlollj · 01/07/2020 12:29

Why ask Richard Madeley? I’m sure he’s very nice and all that. But why?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 01/07/2020 17:04

I had always assumed that celeb agony columns were actually written by people who knew what they were talking about. Obviously not.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 01/07/2020 17:06

He has tried to back pedal on this , making him look even more of an idiot.

NewAndImprovedNorks · 01/07/2020 17:07

Ooops, forgot the link

@DDIJ

There have been various incidences of celebrity agony aunts/uncles giving terrible and wrong advice in what used to be called broadsheets. Does nobody even read over it before it is published?
Why on earth wouldn't they just get this crap ghost written? Or at the very least, as above, run it past someone?
summerrose11 · 01/07/2020 18:38

Misjudged the situation by a long shot there Richard. But don't worry I'm sure he will still be allowed to hand advice out that he knows nothing about

HollowTalk · 01/07/2020 18:40

Marielle Frostrup's given some very bad advice in The Observer, too. Why can't they ask someone who's qualified in that area, if they want an agony aunt?

I can just imagine Judy's face when she saw Richard's advice Grin

GreyGardens88 · 01/07/2020 18:43

His article sounds like it was written in the 1950s

JinnyTheWitch · 01/07/2020 18:50

I was just going to say I've been a bit weirded out by some of the advice dished out lately by Mariella in the Observer and Pamela Stephenson in the Guardian.

But Madeley is on a fucking planet of his own there. I know he's Twittergrovelled, but ffs.

DandyMandy · 01/07/2020 19:29

Disgusting and it doesn't matter if he apologised. That rubbish would have passed by different people before being published in the paper. Shame on them all. I hope any woman dealing with DV reading that doesn't listen to this victim blaming, sexist crap.

StillWeRise · 01/07/2020 20:01

they need to print a correction surely
isn't it a suitable matter for the Press Association or whoever?
him apologising on twitter is hardly going to undo the harm he's done

JinnyTheWitch · 01/07/2020 20:07

His twitgrov says he'll address it in his column on Saturday I think. That'll be fun.
