I just 'outed' myself as GC on Facebook. Pleasantly surprised by the result! One girl I was in college with accused me of being transphobic and tried to say I wanted to erase trans people and tell them who they are. No listening to any counter points or questions I put forward in response. However, several women I know responded publically backing what I had said, and others messaged me privately to voice their support. There's lots of us out there. We shall overcome! 🙌

There are more of us, I'm slightly embarrassed to go public on Facebook as I was an trans ally posting stories and there will be people I know who will have rolled their eyes at my naivety at the time

Helmetbymidnight · 28/06/2020 16:07

well done- the first time is hard- its important though, if you can.

Pertella · 28/06/2020 16:19

I've started posting 'tame' GC content but will be a bit more obvious about it soon.

I have deleted a few people who were pretty open about their TWAW views. All middle aged men funnily enough...

That will make your voice even more powerful.

I wish I could. It would be social and professional suicide.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 28/06/2020 16:28

Well done. I usually get radio silence to anything I put up! Apart from when I got a load of patronising twaddle from an ex student who then deleted me because she "couldn't deal with this much hate on her timeline". I shared one article about JKR's comments and said I agreed with JK. So much hate Hmm.

I did get a pm from a friend who works in education so probably can't go public. She gets it. And a like from an aunt in Canada. At some point I need to try to see if she's heard of J. Yaniv, I've heard in Canada that whole debacle was pretty much kept out of the press.

excitedemmi · 28/06/2020 16:56

I've also done this just this week! I was pleasantly surprised at who came out in supporting similar views. People are still very scared to speak up and it will hopefully unleash a snowball effect of making people feel more confident.

Can I just ask, what exactly have you posted? Is it a post of your own words and opinions or did you just re-post something? I ask as I'm GC and would be happy to be loud and proud about it but wouldn't know what on earth to say or where to start.

I think many folk are GC however go along with the 'popular' opinion. Perhaps if more people started speaking out then they'd see that they aren't in the minority.

Perhaps post a link to this tweet by JKR.

excitedemmi · 28/06/2020 17:56

I've posted a few things. One was a link to John Cleese's tweet in support of JKR and outing myself as GC with also saying that I can't believe that saying sex is real is controversial in this day and age!

StarStarTeachMe · 28/06/2020 18:27

I posted an article about Glinner being banned with a comment about Twitter becoming a one-sided echo chamber and what a pity that is. When challenged by a facebook friend, I outlined my own beliefs more clearly. I've also shared JK Rowling's essay and some of her tweets over the past few weeks, but without comment.
One of my best friends is a lesbian, and her girlfriend has just unfriended me, but hey ho! 🤷‍♀️

Hey ho indeed.

It can hurt but in the end you're better off knowing and it doesn't take long to realise it's not much of a loss in the long run.

SameOldBS · 28/06/2020 18:44

I admire your courage. I wish I had some more of it but most of my peers are so keen on collecting woke points I'd be decimated. And lose my job, probably.

queenjaneappro · 28/06/2020 20:43

I posted a link to JKRs essay saying I agreed with every word. I said i was writing to
my MP and anyone who agreed should do the same. Also included a link to the Newsnight story about The Tavistock.

StarStarTeachMe · 28/06/2020 22:01

Thanks so much for the support. I've been more vocal on Twitter for the last few months, but it feels very different voicing my opinion on my personal Facebook.
