I replied to Amnesty in relation the assertion that:

"The reality is that men who abuse women already have plenty of existing opportunities to do so."

In the context that this means that opening women's spaces will have no impact as, hey, women are already attacked.

Their response...

"Our policy on transgender rights is not going to change. My colleague provided you with plenty of examples that back up our position that self-identification is no threat to women’s rights. If you choose not to accept that, we are just going to have to agree to disagree." And then saying that if I provide details they'll remove me from their database so I don't get asked to donate.

So there you go. They will most definitely prioritise this issue over women's concerns.

Thanks for those links Tickle.

I'd like to see an explanation from Amnesty about why they view the safety of women and girls so differently depending on where they are located.

Women and girls in the UK:
"We dispute any assertion that self-identification will be used by men in order to access spaces where women are vulnerable to abuse or harassment. There is absolutely no evidence that this would happen... The reality is that men who abuse women already have plenty of existing opportunities to do so."

Women and girls in refugee camps:
“At a minimum, this would include setting up single sex, well-lit toilet facilities and separate safe sleeping areas."
www.amnesty.org.uk/press-releases/women-refugees-face-assault-exploitation-and-sexual-harassment-journeying-through

Schoolgirls in Malawi:
...many girls report that meeting their basic bodily needs while at school, whether in a nearby field or a communal latrine, exposes them to bullying, harassment and sexual assault. Both male students and teachers are reported as perpetrators in several qualitative studies
www.amnestyusa.org/how-toilets-can-make-schools-safer/

Schoolgirls worldwide (excluding the UK):
Ensure that schools have sex-segregated toilets and washrooms

So Amnesty is saying that refugee men, and African men, are a threat to women (as documented) but British men aren't? Sounds like Amnesty is racist as fuck.

My colleague provided you with plenty of examples that back up our position that self-identification is no threat to women’s rights.

I'd love to see those examples. How can you prove a negative with examples? "I'll see your list of self-id male abusers and I'll raise you an example of someone who wasn't an abuser. QED"?

Another shitty response from Amnesty. They amaze me. They really don't give a fuck about women, do they? And yet they think we're so socialized to put other people ahead of ourselves that we'll just put up with this, shut our mouths, and keep giving them our money.

Well, not me. I donated to Amnesty every month for the last ten years. They've had literally hundreds out of my pocket. But when I saw that godawful response to a complaint posted here, I emailed them to withdraw my support, and let them know why I was doing it too.

Hit them where it hurts.

I bottled Twitter last night. But I've remembered that I have a ProtonMail account so will update my twitter account to use that then I can post and choose to ignore if I get abuse / anyone stupid can't get any info. This should t need to be done!

Why should I have to worry about risk of actual attack just to try and bring bullshit to the fore. Everyone who has come to this before me is so l genuinely amazing.

What were the 'examples' that Amnesty provided? Intrigued as to how they were able to prove a negative...

SirVixofVixHall · 24/06/2020 14:53

I have a friend who has raised thousands for Amnesty, I am going to send her the info here.

That's their email.
