I missed this yesterday and thought I would catch up. It's pretty balanced surprisingly on the whole. I didn't agree with the premise that was put forward : that if boys are put on puberty blockers, and miss the testosterone surge, that they are comparable to women. Aso India was losing it a little at the end regarding clown fish. Here's the link, I hope it works.

Clownfish is an insult?

When did that happen. I know it’s one of the most ludicrous transactivist arguments, but it’s not an insult when we mention it. It’s pointing out how utterly ridiculous some of the debating points are.

Also... the tweet was about transmen, yet there were none of them there. Why not?

We used to think it was barbaric to castrate boys so that their voices didn't break. Now it's considered progressive to castrate them with drugs instead.

Piers basically said JKR was using her "victim status" as a form of defence but he has historical twitter beef with her. Piers does himself a disservice when he makes it personal like that, he isn't my fave person but he has been good in the past in getting to the crux of the matter.

Dr Stock was good as always - a shame they didn't get to go back to her on the T word comment.

The clownfish thing was odd, I remember anger on here when supposedly scientific arguments mentioning clownfish were used to demonstrate sex change is possible. GC feminists didn't bring clownfish into the discussion.

This is the bit of JK Rowling's statement that Willoughby seems to be objecting to.

Speaking as a biological woman, a lot of people in positions of power really need to grow a pair (which is doubtless literally possible, according to the kind of people who argue that clownfish prove humans aren’t a dimorphic species).

She's referring to the TRAs who decided that the ability of clownfish to change sex proves that humans could also change sex. Willoughby is now complaining that this is being used as an 'insult' towards trans people. But if anyone uses an absurd argument to support their position they shouldn't be surprised when people who disagree with them use it against them afterwards.

I get you OhHolyJesus! I wasn't too pleased with Morgan's attitude to JKR . I thought that India , initially, was reasonable until she floundered with the clown fish, etc. and Nicole seemed ok, until the puberty blocker scenario. I was just expecting something worse. Way worse.

I often find with Willoughby that they get the wrong end of the stick, or they've missed out a whole section of the narrative. It's like they don't really concentrate on it too much, and then have to swot up when asked, but miss bits.

I think it was on the Julia Hartley Brewer show where they claimed that transwomen were the same as women, because there were a similar number of transwomen in prison for sex offences, as there are women.

Not quite understanding how statistics work.

And I'm pretty certain that Piers thinks that India should have all the rights that women have. He sees India as a woman, because of what they look like.

They seemed to be there as window dressing for Piers to have a moan about JKRowling. I spent most of the time boggling at the surgery and processed hair in comparison to Kathleens lovely natural face. And it was almost comical to see Susannah occasionally try to pop out like the wifey in those funny old German clocks only to go poof when Piers started up again. The men like a chat amongst themselves.

There was quite a backlash on twatter by the TRAs and their allies, I can’t find the tweets I read yesterday, but suffices to say lots of complaints re white, cis passing, privilege.

The thing is, if they used for eg Danielle Muscato, do they really think the public would be more on board in ‘repeat after me - TWAW’?

I'd not heard of Nicole Gibson before but I thought it was interesting that the footer stated Nicole Gibson - Actress, when a few years ago it seemed that all female people in the acting profession started using 'actor'

I agree that they really need to get people on who don't pass to the degree that India and Nicole do to give a more accurate representation of why women need to keep single sex spaces.

Piers is TWAW. The average person watching GMB is most certainly not.

The TWAW Piers likes all do the same hair and make up grooming and wear the same formal dresses as women presenters he's used to so he's literally seeing them as the stereotype of woman he's surrounded by. He's happy to be convinced by presentation.

Interesting that they didn't bring a transman into this conversation seeing as it's apparently in their defence that we shouldn't say women have periods.

Interesting that Piers always chooses another male (TW) over a female (TM) on transgender opinion slots.

Transmen are only ever wheeled out in relation to "I've had a baby" slots.
