Why the fuck are brands now preaching ‘right-think’ at us ?

Honestly I don’t understand. Why can’t I open an email or look at an advert on a placard without some moral message being conveyed? What happened? It’s used to be Bernard Matthews trying to convince me to eat machine blasted turkey coated in tasty breadcrumbs. Now it’s George from Asda lecturing me about how to be a good LGBT+ ally!!

I mean honest to god I preferred it when they were just honest with their message. Come and shop here because we’re a bit shit but we’re ruddy cheap.

Be gone with your bullshit woke credentials 🤬

And what are the school packs they invite you to download?

dkl55 · 14/06/2020 11:48

Totally agree with you. So over brands trying to jump on the wokest cause to sell their tat. It also minimises and drowns out the real issues. Pretty disgusting really. And has there ever been a brand that told everyone how to reduce male violence and help women? Ridiculous.

AnyFucker · 14/06/2020 11:48

I got the Asda one today in my inbox.

Yeah, it's bullshit

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/06/2020 11:50

Fuck only knows. I’ve just unsubscribed.

I don’t care who is having sex with who, I’m all for it as long as it’s consensual, but you won’t try and sell me poor quality food and clothes by riding your woke wagon through my inbox. Fuck. Off.

The irony being they have treated their workers like absolute shit during the pandemic.

When they can look after their staff and treat them with respect and dignity, they Can come back to me.

EmperorCovidula · 14/06/2020 11:54

It’s virtue marketing.

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/06/2020 11:55

I ordered one home delivery shop from them and it was the most dismal collection of rotten food I’ve ever seen. Wasn’t even cheap. Never again.

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/06/2020 11:56

Ah ‘virtue marketing’. Never heard of it but it sounds like a thing. Off to google ...

AnyFucker · 14/06/2020 11:56

I have unsubscribed and emailed to tell them I object to being preached at.

Kettlingur · 14/06/2020 11:57

Virtue signalling sells well with the woke crowd.

SuckingDieselFella · 14/06/2020 11:57

I'm doing an online grocery order and Sainsburys have made their logo rainbow-coloured for pride weekend. They do it to increase sales but I doubt the young and woke shop at Sainsburys.

Not in the same league as the Starbucks Mermaids cookie, though.

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/06/2020 12:00

No idea, but it's hugely annoying. Which is kind of a #fail particularly with the economy in the state it's in, rather like the tv adverts that make you grab for the remote and fast forward through the lot.

Anyone remember the old John Cleese sketch 'how to sell things'?

First the wrong way:
Customer: Hello, please may I buy something?
Shop owner: No, get lost you boring idiot. (Modernised: No you unwoke bigot with wrongthink)

Now the right way:
Customer: Hello, please may I buy something?
Shop owner: Yes!

TorkTorkBam · 14/06/2020 12:02

A bloody supermarket should be supporting women's charities.

Boots managed to set up the special dv support room. Bars have the "ask for annabel" or whatever to escape dodgy blokes.

Most abused women still get to go to the supermarket unsupervised. If supermarkets partnered with Women's Aid or Al-Anon to offer in-store local support my god could you imagine the impact!

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/06/2020 12:07

I’ve googled and it’s called ‘morality marketing’. I read a few articles, rolled my eyes so hard I now have a headache and off I go again, off to do a shit ton of weekend wife work while the kids disassemble the house.

My local Waitrose has a big poster on the door about domestic violence with contact details.

Although I can't see anyone noting down those details if there are people behind them in the queue.

HunterAngel · 14/06/2020 12:12

Tesco now have contact information for a domestic violence charity discretely printed on the receipt. That’s morality marketing I approve of!

SuckingDieselFella · 14/06/2020 12:19

That's a great idea.

SusieMyerson · 14/06/2020 12:22

I replied to this email detailing why I will never shop with them again and then unsubscribed. What a load of woke bollocks.

Melroses · 14/06/2020 12:36

I have unsubscribed and emailed to tell them I object to being preached at.

It's the ones that come to your door trying to palm you off with a magazine about current contentious issues when they really want to tell you about God and your place in heaven.

Or there are the ones that invite you to a nice social so that you can be told to love Jesus and he will make you into a better person and you will have friends.

Or the ones that lure you in with affordable clothing, telling you to be a Good Ally, and they will fight your poverty....by tweeting a few gifs.

JellySlice · 14/06/2020 12:44

They're marketing to the navel-gazing nitwits who think that mouthing words is equivalent to taking action.

justanotherneighinparadise · 14/06/2020 12:54

Do you know I’m still so pissed off I had to come back and say something else 🤬

Think of your demographic!! I’m so sick of seemingly ALL companies positioning themselves to attract the young, hip and interesting. Yes, there are certain products where that demographic is absolutely their main customer. Brilliant, your advertising campaign is bang on the money.

But there are other companies whose customer base has a very ordinary life. We’re bogged down in our lockdown lifestyle of work, home educating, eat, sleep and repeat. We’re up to our eyes in housework and we’re sick and tired of being told what to think.

Let me guess - no mention of sexism and misogyy???

No, thought not.

KaronAVyrus · 14/06/2020 13:12

I wonder if this type of marketing increases sales? I can’t imagine that it does.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/06/2020 13:41

I only get recipes from them - what tags do you guys have on your data?!

AuntyFungal · 14/06/2020 13:52

DH works in finance - it’s infiltrated there too.

this woke of the moment meaningless statement meme

that woke of the moment meaningless statement meme

But what are they actually doing? Naff all.

More % women on company boards - yes of course we’ve increased the % minister (by reducing the actual number of board members - not by employing women)
