With their immense privilege and position in society they show us who they really are as they dare to lecture Jo Rowling.
They are obviously done with her and looking to preserve their own positions, blithely throwing her under the bus as they go.
Despicable.

@DryHeave

Emma’s just tweeted.
Jumping on the bandwagon and encouraging followers to donate to Mermaids ffs!

'Jumping on the bandwagon and encouraging followers to donate to Mermaids ffs!'

Dear oh dear oh dear. None of these people actually have a single thought of their own, do they? They're just parroting what some agent/ PR has told them to say. What a pathetic bunch

kazzer2867 · 10/06/2020 22:38

@Michelleoftheresistance

At the expense of the many females who will be excluded from female provision by their presence, and denied the ability to live their lives peacefully or to access things like health care, or refuges, or hospital wards, gyms, toilets.... the list goes on and on.

Male born people do not matter more than these female people. There is not some warped justice in excluding and punishing female people whose needs prevent them being able to prioritise and serve the happiness of any random male in their vicinity.

This is male supremacist bullshit. It does not even see the females in the equation

^^This.

Well said.

Would love to know how Eddie Redmayne can hold the beliefs that trans women are women AND that he’s the perfect person to play a trans woman, at the same time. Is he just a bit dim

LOL.

Fallingirl · 10/06/2020 22:42

So between the three of them, coming in out in support of giving women’s human rights to privacy, dignity and safety to men, we have a He for He, a He for He, and a She for He.

I could cry. The stupid, stupid children.

TehBewilderness · 10/06/2020 22:46

Shocked and horrified to read that Emma Watson donates to Mermaids to assist them in teaching children that if they fail to comply with sex role stereotypes they must be chemically and surgically altered to be their authentic self.

Method acting, I suppose. He identified as trans while he performed transitioning by putting on a costume. Sound familiar.

^This. Surely if TWAW, the role should have gone to either a trans woman or a woman. A man should never have been in the running. I don’t know how he can live with himself for having committed such a heretical act of transphobia. I imagine the money is some consolation though.

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/06/2020 22:54

Well Emma's never going to have to deal with being locked up with a serious sex offender with a lot of violent rapes on their record who plans to share a shower with her, or change in M&S on a floor someone's wanked on, or need a refuge when she's so terrified and hyperalert to males that she can't think or breathe when she hears a male voice, or not be able to access her yoga because her religion or culture is in her way.

It's so easy when you're that privileged to have no idea what you're busy sentencing other women in the real world to for some sentimentalised and very vague idea of what self ID means at the coal face.

All lives matter, eh Emma?

Freespeecher · 10/06/2020 23:13

I wonder if it's more that the press asked them for a comment and it was either do what they did or face a raft of 'xxx refuses to condemn JKR's comments' stories.

I mean I would have liked to see a bit more intestinal fortitude but this looks like media games to me.

squiggleirl · 10/06/2020 23:14

Am I missing something here?

If, as Daniel Radcliffe says, 'Trans women are women', then couldn't the article that J.K Rowling was referring to just been titled, 'Creating a more equal post-Covid world for women', in which case she wouldn't have written the original tweet, that caused all of this.

In fact, by objecting to her pointing out the word that should have been used was 'women', they are explicitly saying that trans women are not women, because they would not have been encompassed by this word.

RubyViolet · 10/06/2020 23:17

It’s a pile on. They are the mob. Disgusting.

James Dreyfus (gimme gimme gimme, thin blue line etc) seems to be very supportive of jk. Iv not looked very far back but I get the impression he agrees with much of what she is saying.

I happened to be Googling him today as he is on tv tonight and he has posted several supportive tweets.
He mentions losing "followers" but seems uninterested in the fallout of being publicly supportive.

Ginkypig · 10/06/2020 23:30

Sorry wrong thread Blush

Ach well it works here too I suppose.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/06/2020 00:34

These men are pompous, entitled and gross: lecturing a woman on what women are allowed to say.

Dudebros gonna dudebro, I guess.

Willow2017 · 11/06/2020 00:46

Self important young men who believe thier own publicity have a need to tell a woman how wrong she is?
No big surprise.
Wankers.

contactusdeletus · 11/06/2020 01:56

I never could get on board the Eddie Redmayne train. He comes across as very wet behind the ears and is part of a recent rash of identikit private school fops who seem to secure every male role in British film and television. Where are the BAME and working class actors? It's all RADA and Eton and light brown curly hair atop a milk- bottle complexion, like they're printing them off in some Generic Posh Boy factory

OliveKitteridgeAgain · 11/06/2020 02:09

Well the HP films are done and dusted now, but presumably there's another instalment of Fantastic Beasts to come. Is Redmayne hypocrite enough to carry on acting in a franchise borne from JKR's terfy imagination? I hope she has been able to retain some rights over it and refuse to provide another instalment if he is in it.

I would also love for the Harry Potter books to be refilmed using child actors who can actually act this time. Every other franchise has had a re-boot, why not this one too for a new generation. Erase the memory of Radcliffe's alcohol fuelled, embarrassingly bad acting.

Goosefoot · 11/06/2020 02:37

Child actors are tricky. I think getting something worthwhile out of them is very dependent on the director for one thing. But even if they are ok as child actors, it seems quite random whether they will be worthwhile as they become teens and adults. I think once you gain a certain level of self-reflection or ability to abstract, acting draws on a whole different set of mental capacities and it's also much more of a technical task that takes practice and study. Which you haven't had much time for as a teen, especially if you've been busy filming famous movies.

RubyViolet · 11/06/2020 13:43

I see Warner Bros have released a statement that doesn’t take sides on this. Looks like they are waiting to see which way the wind blows... either that or they have some more thoughtful people working there. I mean nobody in Hollywood wants the new McCarthyism.

A pair of privately educated men have taken It upon themselves to tell a woman what she can and cannot think. It’s been the same old shit for several millennia.
