Hi all,

Just a quick thought for those of us with ancient, well-loved, falling-apart copies of the Harry Potter series in our homes: I'm thinking of treating my dcs to a brand new box set of the books. Think it might send a strong message to her publishers etc if lots of us did similar. Not sure what i'll do with the old ones - have charity shops reopened? Or maybe I'll keep them for emergencies.

I’ve donated to Lumos.

MoltenLasagne · 10/06/2020 18:12

I'll be getting the Robert Galbraith books and making a donation to Lumos. From JK's previous words I think the charity thing would be very uplifting for her.

DryHeave · 10/06/2020 18:15

Or donate to her charity?

Turkeydrumstick · 10/06/2020 18:17

The illustrated ones are amazing! I own so many versions of the books already but have been waiting for an excuse for the Lego castle....

lionheart · 10/06/2020 18:49

This is an excellent place to start.

@mightymalties - I saw this earlier today and have pre-ordered.
It’s beautiful!
I have The Jungle Book and Peter Pan MinaLima editions so it’ll sit proudly along side them.

Lockdownseperation · 10/06/2020 19:00

Jk has a new Galbraith book coming out soon. It’s available now to preorder.

DickKerrLadies · 10/06/2020 19:04

I've been considering getting a boxed set for the kids, as I bought most of mine one at a time (waiting by the letter box by the last few!).

I did enjoy Casual Vacancy as well. It's been ages since I bought myself a new book.

dolorsit · 10/06/2020 19:21

I've just purchased this

Very Good Lives by J.K. Rowling

In 2008, J.K. Rowling delivered a deeply affecting commencement speech at Harvard University. Now published for the first time in book form, Very Good Lives offers J.K. Rowling's words of wisdom for anyone at a turning point in life, asking the profound and provocative questions: How can we embrace failure? And how can we use our imagination to better both ourselves and others?

All proceeds go to charity.

Chrestomanci3 · 10/06/2020 19:21

Have ordered a few of her books today - already have the HP books and dvds, just got started on the Robert Galbraith books.

StealthNinjaMum · 10/06/2020 19:31

I rarely buy books but I have just bought a couple of Robert Galbraith's.

cheeseismydownfall · 10/06/2020 19:42

Thank for the suggestion of donating to Lumos. Perfect. Monthly donation set up.

AngeloMysterioso · 10/06/2020 20:03

If you go into the Minalima shop in London they have all sorts of HP and FB artwork and prints for sale too...

She is such an amazing Woman. Does anyone know the best way to email her privately? I daren't show support for her publicly, but I would like to send her a note even if she's not likely to read it. Is there a way to DM on Twitter?

BlueRaincoat1 · 10/06/2020 23:34

@skateosaurus

You can email her office using [email protected]

I did today, and got a lovely message back form someone on her team. Other people on mumsnet have also emailed using this address.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 10/06/2020 23:41

I've just bought the Robert Galbraith books. I'll also email my support.

DiscontentedWoman · 11/06/2020 14:56

I ordered various JKR books yesterday. Went to bed furious. Woke up still furious and have ordered some more books. DD is making her a thank you card.

WellThankyouAJPTaylor · 11/06/2020 15:01

I bought all the Strike books after JK took a stand over Maya Forstater

Delighted to hear there's another one coming out. I shall break my wait-for-the-paperback rule and buy it on release (something I've previously only done for Terry Pratchett)

QuarantineDream · 11/06/2020 15:11

I spend a ton of money at the theme parks and will continue to do so! If you're looking for something else to buy, I got a charm bracelet last time I was there, % proceeds go to Lumos - you can get them online here: noblecollection.co.uk/product-category/harry-potter/lumos/

BiologyNotBigotry · 11/06/2020 15:21

I've donated to Lumos & where it asks if you want to donate in honour of someone, I put JK Rowling. Grin

marytuda · 11/06/2020 15:47

Buy a whole new set of JK Rowling books from The Guardian Bookshop! That might send a double message.
The newspaper didn't even cover the JK Rowling statment until Daniel Radcliffe got involved, and as you'll know it has history.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shop weren't under some pressure to stop stocking her.
