This is disgusting, the CPS is simply not fit for purpose.

CPS failing women yet again

And yet they've got the time and resources to be 'educating' eleven year olds and criminalising them for not playing with each other.

(Incidentally without any evidence necessary but word against word and reported feelings.)

Insane

FloralBunting · 04/05/2020 18:34

That's appalling. I know a woman who is being stalked and the measures to deter are entirely pointless. I thought this shit was supposed to have been dealt with in recent law changes etc?

I mean, surely it can't be that men can act with near impunity to intimidate women?

Fallingirl · 04/05/2020 18:44

Imagine Sophie had been a trans woman. Do we believe the response would have been the same?

Binterested · 04/05/2020 18:47

My god. Shouldn’t the press be picking this up ?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 04/05/2020 19:06

Imagine Sophie had been a trans woman. Do we believe the response would have been the same?

No. Because in that case Sophie would be male. And would then count for something in society Sad

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/05/2020 19:35

That's dreadful - and I'm not surprised. The police still only play lip service to threats and violence against women - just look at all the "oh but it happens to men too" crap that they're all currently spouting while women are under siege everywhere.
She has my utmost sympathy and hopefully the mainstream press will pick it up.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 04/05/2020 20:56

This is appalling. Why on earth aren't they doing something?!

LouHotel · 04/05/2020 23:25

She’s done everything she is supposed to do, when eventually she is hurt or worse case killed. There will be a review, an apology and ‘lessons learned’.....until the next case.

From the replies Sophie has Some high profile allies so I hope this is resolved.

RabidChinchilla · 05/05/2020 03:51

My partner used to box with a couple of coppers and they said they were pretty much powerless to do anything until a stalker had taken action (which admittedly he has in this case, although whether it can be proved is a different matter).

One of their wives had actually been stalked prior to them getting married (guy used to follow her home) and according to my partner it only stopped when her fiancé got a couple of his mates to give the guy a shoeing - couldn’t do it himself as his knuckles would’ve been a giveaway.

Pretty scary when even police officers have to resort to these measures and I 100% believe it happened as my partner says.

MoltenLasagne · 05/05/2020 07:20

In this case the police have sought to bring charges and the CPS have refused. I'd love to know their justification. It seems that the CPS don't give a shit about female victims.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/05/2020 07:43

When someone I knew was raped the police were all for prosecuting but the CPS refused. It was so disappointing, though the fact the police made it very plain that they believed her was some comfort.

FloralBunting · 05/05/2020 08:30

Well, the CPS put out guidance in schools that made it clear they think female boundaries and desire for safety are unacceptable and possibly criminal. That they have amplified that from a school setting to an adult male being allowed to terrorize a woman and her family with impunity is the most unpleasant and least surprising development of the last week.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 05/05/2020 09:40

Excellent point FloralBunting . The CPS don't fail to disappoint do they?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 05/05/2020 09:59

This is outrageous. Sophie is pretty high profile and am glad she has the support from others to challenge this.

Not trying to pry - but is this related to her feminist and political activities?

MoltenLasagne · 05/05/2020 10:06

Sophie is pretty high profile and am glad she has the support from others to challenge this.

This is what concerns me the most. If the CPS will refuse to prosecute when they have evidence and know the victim is high profile and well connected, how many other women are they treating the same way that we're not hearing about?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 05/05/2020 10:09

Exactly right! Am thinking of other women who regularly grace this board who have had similar experiences and nothing has been done. In fact they have been arrested when they responded to harassment. That’s why I am wondering what is happening to Sophie Walker. The twitter comments seem to be jumping to DV and have seen no hint of that elsewhere so am wondering.

Aesopfable · 05/05/2020 10:13

Well, Sophie is obviously in breach of the CPS principles laid out in the schools’ guidelines. She must have said ‘no’ to this man and therefore must have committed some hate crime. She should be jolly glad the CPS haven’t arrested her and her children...

(Yes, I am being sarcastic)

Cuntysnark · 05/05/2020 10:19

Ffs I hope this gains some traction. I’d like to say I’m mystified...

Michelleoftheresistance · 05/05/2020 11:25

Well, the CPS put out guidance in schools that made it clear they think female boundaries and desire for safety are unacceptable and possibly criminal.

^^
In a nutshell.

Boundaries against whom? Males.
Desire for safety from whom? Males.
Criminal against whom? Males.

Male supremacism.

She tweeted a couple of hours ago that a suspect has now been arrested. Awful for her:

Another ominous development.

Truth in a court of law is now hate speech and to commit perjury is required by the CPS.

How can they square this with in English law rape = penis he/him, patterns of male on female violence etc.

No victim of male violence - men or women - will want to call him ‘she/her’.

The CPS is enabling further victimisation.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 30/07/2020 14:44

Is there a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)? See the TEMG further on this point – but bear in mind that if someone has a GRC, then disclosing their history can be a criminal offence, and bear in mind CPS policy that trans victims and defendants should be treated as though they have a GRC in any event.

What??? If green is green we will treat them if they are blue without any verification that they are blue and not green.

It is important to establish how a victim, witness or defendant wishes to be addressed (i.e. name, title and pronoun) and always address them accordingly.
