When we wonder about the growth of all things trans, and what is driving it, the reply is often "follow the money" = big pharma.

Came across this today - I don't usually go around looking at global market reports so I hope it is a reliable source.

I know Karon Imagine spending all those years being kind and empathetic with your patients and ending up looking at factors that will "boost the market growth" or "attract a major patient pool".

The thing that leaps out to me is there's no mention that the super expanding market of the past few years might stall or go into reverse.

The analysts have a very limited awareness of what's actually going on and what might happen next. For example Thalidomide-type negative publicity as loads of sterilised young people tell their stories.

This kind of backward-looking market analysis brought us the 2007-08 financial crisis.

It does briefly note a potential pitfall relating to the rise in incidence of sex change regret.
On the whole though it cheerfully and uncritically predicts a booming market.

That is some serious cash...

Stryker is behind Arcus and I've seen some threads on here I think about him/Arcus and also the pharma who is behind Lupron and selling it 'off label'. It's fascinating and terrifying...and this is just the surgeries right? It doesn't include the cost of everything that follows.

Jamie Dodger has done a video about the cost of her transition as it was done privately and you can see what a money spinner it is, and I wonder if follow up surgeries cost more, as in Jazz Jennings being on his third surgery, or Scott Newgent's multiple surgeries, do you get some kind of discount if the first one went wrong?

When Teresa May announced that she wanted to make the uk the world centre for transgender rights, or something, on the day after her election sort of victory, I laughed because she sounded like Tony Blair and his world centre for the banking industry and I wondered if she was considering that it might replace what was lost in the 2008 banking collapse.

Maybe she was?

I recall reading a report a while ago looking at the money to be made in UK markets. The projected amount to be made ran into significant sums, If I recall correctly men's surgeries were growing esp those related to the top half of the body, girls were seen as a growing target market. The downside pointed out in the report was a lack of UK doctors qualified to carry out surgeries; though that was changing.
