[[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-51969508 For the past week, all eyes have been on Alberta's top doctor, Dr Deena Hinshaw.

The province's chief medical officer has been tasked with providing daily updates to the public on the spread of coronavirus, and the measures they should take to help flatten the curve.

But people aren't just tuning in for her latest medical advice, they're also looking to her for her latest style.

When she wore a dress decorated with the periodic table, the small boutique that made the frock was inundated with orders]]

We are in the midst of a fucking pandemic and the BBC are commenting on a Chief Medical Officers dress.

I wonder why they don't have commentary on male leader's fashion sense?

mmm, but a dress decorated with the periodic table does sound cool, to be fair

aliasundercover · 21/03/2020 21:33

That dress is great.

I reckon if a man had worn a suit with the periodic table stitched into it people would have commented on that too.

fallfallfall · 21/03/2020 21:44

well i'm glad she's being recognized enough that people are not only listening to her but actually looking at her while she speaks. what a great role model for young girls.

I saw the thread title and was worried this was going to be about Yaniv.

'male scientist wears boring clothes shock'

DidoLamenting · 21/03/2020 23:05

The dress is great.

The BBC was reporting what had already been reported extensively on Canadian news and Dr Deena Hinshaw has become a surprise celebrity. She is attracting a lot of attention. She has been described as doing such an incredible job of it, mixing expert information and advice, along with kindness, compassion and an utter absence of politicking

Dr Hinshaw seems to wear a different outfit for almost every press conference and has quite a range of interesting dresses and scarves.

Of course a dress with the design of the periodic table from a small, independent designer is going to be picked up and commented on. I'm sure that will come as no surprise to Dr. Hinshaw.

I'm pleased they reported this. It's the most interesting thing I've read all day.

As another poster said, if a male scientist had worn something equally quirky it would have been commented on.

I preferred this story, with a central professional woman, to any of the other “lighter side of Coronavirus” stores on that page!

Floisme · 22/03/2020 00:34

Woman is good at her job and likes clothes. Call the police.

Great dress.

AnnaMagnani · 22/03/2020 12:18

The Canadian article is brilliant - talks about how qualified she is, how everyone is appreciating how brilliant she is at her job AND she wears a cool dress.

Be fair, the dress is super cool.
