Best wishes to all the women on this board. These are strange and troubling times and this board has been a place of support, intelligent debate and eye opening information. Even two weeks ago feels like a different planet. Hope everyone stays well.

Good luck to all you wonderful, strong bloody women. I’m currently bunkered down with my youngest and worrying sick about my two boys who live away from home. My one concern, other that the obvious world wide situation, is that those with sneaky intentions might try to sneak a few things through while this is going on. That old ‘it’s a good day to bury bad news’ method. Don’t let your guard down women.

Thank you all. I am in hiding due to asthma , and suffering large bouts of irrationality. I felt it got quite quiet here for a few days and I really missed you all.
Also found I have a clear sex related unconscious bias, I think I would trust out experts a lot more if I could see there were women in the team rather than all men.m

It is such a strange, dislocating time. As Datun says, at least we can still give each other a shout out on this forum. To all of you whose lives are on hold, to those who are bunkered down because of a pre-existing condition, to those who are feeling vulnerable and worried about their family, this blasted virus will be defeated soon hopefully. Stay strong and safe, all the very best to everyone.

this blasted virus will be defeated soon hopefully.

It will. It already has in some parts. That's not to minimise circumstances where people have lost someone or been adversely affected. At all 💐

But to those who are freaking out because of the unknown. Hold the line.

And let's all take comfort in the fact that, despite it feeling like Spanish flu and the first world war all rolled into one, we are living in the digital age, and we can talk to each other.

Where they learnt to keep chickens, grow cauliflower and shoot rabbits, we have Skype, FaceTime and Zoom.

The women on this board, on this forum are extraordinary.

My hope is that this is the women's strike that I have long advocated for. A friend was in asda today and the all female staff were working, but were not yet acknowledged as key workers by the bro government, although unsurprisingly delivery drivers (mostly male are). So when the schools shut down tomorrow, the supermarkets are going to find out just how difficult things are without low paid female workers. Ditto care home staff, TAs, female HCPs, and all the other hidden, not given a toss about, low paid female labour. I am not sure I will survive this, pre existing conditions and all that, but if the outcome is natal born women's labour is finally recognised, then that is a good thing. Shame it will have have been an apocalyptic event for this to been seen. Women have to form political parties, we have to. We have seen how fragile our rights are with the trans situation - we have to be strong now and fight back.

This is my third week of isolation in a rural area of Western Washington State, and as much as I have always loved the interwebs I appreciate them and this forum even more now.

It is breaking my heart to see the Florida beaches full of young people spreading the virus, soon to take it home with them, because of incompetent leadership.

Fallingirl · 20/03/2020 03:36

Thinking of all the awesome women here, and all the awesome women hit by the ban hammer who may still be reading along and engaging in awesomeness elsewhere.

And for anyone being poorly, with Covid or any other problem, get well soon Flowers

Ah, lovely thread but would expect nothing less from you lot Smile

My parents are in another country, so I can’t see them, probably for months, and I am worried for them. They’re generally in good health, but old enough to be at risk.

I have two of my children here. The third will hopefully arrive this evening, though with flight cancellations and extra border controls, nothing is certain.

So many fabulous women here. I know you’ll keep me laughing and inspired through this. And I don’t fancy shooting rabbits, but I do rather like the idea of the chickens.

Good luck everyone.

I’ve had to log myself out of Facebook and forget the password for a bit in the interests of sanity, but I’d just like to say that @DJLippy has been on bloody fire this week and has made me laugh more than anything else when it was badly needed. If you’re reading, thank you and hope you’re ok x

Lamahaha · 22/03/2020 07:38

I've been reminded of war stories and the women who held families and frankly, the country together.

War stories are the most inspiring books out there. And yes, it was the women who held everything together at a time when the world was literally falling apart. Women are the invisible backbone of society. The backbone is invisible, unlike face, arms, legs, books, whatever. But without it everything is just an amorphous chaotic lump.

I love this group, love this forum, love that it is one of the only completely sane places on the internet today, and a place we can gather to share our worries and our strengths.

This may not be quite the same as WW2 but we can invoke that same spirit, that same strength. Because we are women.

Well said BovaryX. I only discovered this board about 18 months ago. I have learned a lot and laughed too (when appropriate obviously). This last few weeks it has more than ever been a place for rational thought and tempered discussion.

Elbow bumps and virtual hugs for everyone.
