A new FB group has been set up Tuesday, intended as a place where both sides can talk to each other. The rules for the group state that it is only for people to actually engage earnestly, with arguments rather than hurling abuse.

It also states coherent arguments would be a non-starter if we can not acknowledge the reality of biological sex.

It is a closed group, but obv. screenshot will happen.

I applaud the intention, but I don’t personally think discussions will lead anywhere. However, that is mostly based on the exhaustion I feel now, as a result of the unrelenting attacks on women’s rights.

If others are willing to actually engage with genuine trans activists, as opposed to the faux ingenue types we get here, I certainly applaud you.

The group says the group name is misleading (although they chose it?)

Looks like a terrible excuse to add to the terf list, but confirming real names instead of aliases. Not a chance I’d use a fb group to discuss transactivism. It’s basically a shortcut to banning people from yet another platform.

"Meet me in the middle", says the unjust man.
You step forward and he steps back.
"Meet me in the middle", says the unjust man.

TirisfalPumpkin · 18/03/2020 05:51

A few years back this would’ve seemed like a good idea.

The TRAs have since proved they are not interested in debate or the possibility of changing their minds. If they engage in something like that it will be to narc and sealion at women.

Bezalelle · 18/03/2020 06:00

If one of the caveats is that biological sex is a reality, I don't see how it would work, since TRAs categorically deny it.

CircleofWillis · 18/03/2020 06:08

I would be very wary about providing my private Facebook details in this setup.

stillathing · 18/03/2020 06:19

I like the idea of debate with rules, such as agreeing the definition of certain terms and demonstrating you understand the other person's point before you refute it.

But yeah, why Facebook with the identities exposed, when doing this is unsafe for one side but not the other?

I'm suspicious because not a single supporter of gender ideology has debated fairly and in good faith here, and MN is not even neutral - the guidelines are biased towards them!

Wereallsquare · 18/03/2020 06:46

MRAs-TRAs will use your private information to ruin your life. Terrible idea.

NonnyMouse1337 · 18/03/2020 06:56

Seems like a terrible idea, unless you create a separate, fake Facebook account specifically for interacting with the group.

There's a Reddit sub - r/GCdebatesQT
I don't know how effective it has been at changing minds.

AnyOldSpartabix · 18/03/2020 07:24

Odd how this is happening now there is a genuine worldwide crisis. Now they want to talk because they’ve already noticed that they’ve lost the world’s attention.

We’re all kind of busy right now and have more important things to do. So piss right off with your me, me, me. Go out and help someone who really needs help you narcissistic fuckers.

That's a no from me.

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 18/03/2020 07:45

The time for this has long passed I'm afraid. I Remember them being invited to speak at WPUK at one of the first meetings and pulling out at the last minute (yes,Stonewall, I'm looking at you).

They've had more than enough time for reasonable discourse, which would've gone some way towards de-escalating the situation, but chose instead to threaten, abuse and slur anyone who didn't capitulate.

I'm with PP re them using this to get GC details. Give it a miss.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 18/03/2020 09:41

Does anyone remember 'Transrational' and a TW who liked to have women hanging on their every word?

I can't see that dialogue will work with the hardline TWAW TRAs.

Bezalelle · 18/03/2020 09:47

It sounds like Chairman Mao's "Hundred Flowers" campaign, where he invited criticism from academics and intellectuals, and then promptly purged them once he had their identities.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/03/2020 09:51

Oooh! No!!!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/03/2020 14:19

YY Bezalelle that sounds about right.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/03/2020 14:29

The page rules seem solid, insofar as I'd use them on other FB pages.

But would I join that page? Not a chance in hell. The TRAs will be all over it to hunt people down, dox and threaten - also known as their usual tactics, because they are utterly incapable of rational, adult discussion.

They don't know what it means to use anything but fists (real or virtual) to get their way. Strangely similar to a lot of men, by pure coincidence.

CranberriesChoccy · 18/03/2020 14:36

Hmm. feels skeptical

I post on a GC page and it's usually necessary to keep the wokey TRA types out because they LOVE to report people for "transphobia" which in their eyes is mentioning the reality of biological sex.

You can't have a discussion with many of them as they have firmly put both feet in the TWAW camp and not willing to debate.

CranberriesChoccy · 18/03/2020 14:39

Also, why are they using images of young children on their page header?Hmm

Fallingirl · 18/03/2020 14:41

The group is probably most useful as somewhere to direct TRAs who claim they want an earnest discussion to!

Datun · 18/03/2020 14:43

How are you supposed to engage on that page, without revealing your identity? And it wouldn't necessarily even be the people on the page who dox you, but anyone else who decides to join.

Madness.

I remember Venice Allan saying she had issued something like 24 separate invitations to transactivists to speak at her very first meeting. All of which were declined. And then the meeting was targeted and a woman punched to the ground.

If they want a dialogue, go on national telly. Go on a radio program, set it up in public with women who are already known.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/03/2020 14:51

As others have said, considering that anyone discussing this in their real name
(no matter how kindly or empathetically) has a good chance of their employer being harassed, I think joining it would be a very bad idea.
I'm also very Hmm at the cover image. That's not polite discussion stuff, even if it is meant ironically.

hoodathunkit · 18/03/2020 17:50

While I support free and open discussion of sensitive issues, very serious concerns about data harvesting would prevent me from going anywhere near a facebook group like this

LadyQuarantinaPluckington · 18/03/2020 19:12

If someone promises me the chance to dialogue with someone who styles themselves as my sworn enemy, as long as I first put my neck in a noose, I don't believe I would take long to conclude "Fuck that!"
