Blending children's entertainment with sexual entertainment :/

I was on the WMC's website this morning to see if they had announcements about the Coronavirus situation (seeing how mass gatherings are going to be banned soon).

For those of you who are unaware of this place, it's a very large arts centre in Wales, with multiple performances inside. In terms of how well known it is, it's the equivalent of Bristol Old Vic or the Southbank Centre.

Then I saw this link
www.wmc.org.uk/en/whats-on/seasons/ffresh-cabaret/

A Drag Queen Story Time (which is supposed to be something for kids) is advertised right next to, and in the same category as 'Slut Slam' - something that's sexual, bondagey (judging by the photo) and very adult. I've read briefly who Cameryn Moore is, and the show is something that I would expect a sex shop to organise. The age limit is 16+, which I think is too young, even if they do see more explicit things online.

I just find it bizarre that something that's supposed to be children's entertainment (apparently) is even in the same category as a sex themed show ran by someone who describes herself as a 'sidewalk pornographer' amongst other things. Wtf???? Have they lost their minds??? Seems either very inappropriate or a stupid oversight.

I can totally see why someone would say 'I think you're making a big deal out of this', and I know they are separate shows, but I don't think that the lines between children's entertainment and the sexual world should be blurred, and for me, advertising them in the same section seems a little......off.

Of course it's inappropriate. But the uber liberal brigade would not agree with our 'bigoted' views.

definitelygc · 14/03/2020 11:17

*This month's theme is 'MESSY'. Whether that means tragic stains or splashy ecstasy, psychological situations or actual events involving an industrial cleaner... sex can be a messy business.

So tell us all about it, or sit back and enjoy, while host Cameryn Moore makes dirty the new wholesome.*

Oh god spare us. I'd rather put pins in my eyes than listen to some bloke tell the world about his cum stains. Yes I agree that 16 is too young. I don't find it surprising that drag queen story time is in the same category as this stuff because it is the same category. That's why DQST is entirely inappropriate.

Aesopfable · 14/03/2020 11:19

Advertising in the same section is perhaps appropriate and makes it clear what they are up to. I am surprised even the people pushing DQST didn’t think it a bit too obvious though.

This is the constant, drip, drip of depraved behaviour being forced on the rest of us.

FFS get a proper job and stop defacing pavements

One of the very few upsides of the current CV emergency I can see is that maybe, just maybe, there will be a large-scale coming-to-our-senses moment as people in positions of power grasp that science matters, expert voices are needed and narcissistic navel-gazing of this kind has done us no good at all and is something we can easily dispense with while we grapple with really important stuff.

It surprised me when I first read that psychiatrists reported a big reduction in mental health problems during WW2. I'm sure a lot of people did suffer with depression following bereavement, PTSD, increased anxiety and so on, but apparently a great many others found their mental health massively improved by having useful work to do, getting out of the house regularly and meeting people, plenty of exercise, basic but nutritious food, strong sense of community purpose and so on. I expect in some cases the enforced separation from spouse was also much welcomed. I see parallels with what's happening now.

They say themselves the aim is for adults to learn how to "introduce the kids to the wilder side of life", so there you go...
I agree 16 is too young for the Slut Slam session, which will discuss "lust, sex and dirty disasters". I also noticed that the Drag Queen Vogueing Class has an age limit of just 14! So, yes, blurring the lines indeed...
Their contact details are here if anyone wants to let them know what you think www.wmc.org.uk/en/site/contact-us/

skql · 14/03/2020 13:49

because drag is for adult.

i don't think "drag story time" is apparently for kid, it pretends for kids.

now at least there's some honesty.

and there's slogan

"kids for drag" "sex with age 16 is legal" "sex work is work"
"age 3 can decide sex reassignment."
"some kids find out about sex at 5" "sex positive!"

everyone knows what comes next.

This is Moore's sidewalk slut where Moore will write porn for you. Porn which is all about women being slammed into walls and your boyfriend hitting you so hard it makes you cry.

People like Moore are responsible for rough sex defence.

One of Moore's other projects is: "Child’s Play (a curated storytelling show exploring childhood experiences in sexuality),"

How disgusting that Wales public purse is paying for this.

Child’s Play (a curated storytelling show exploring childhood experiences in sexuality

What?! I'm afraid to even type that into a Google search. This new centring of children within this whole sex-posi movement is sinister af.

''Outside of my more solo projects, I enjoy collaborating with people in areas other than sex. A few such projects includeNOM(a community storytelling open mic about food, co-produced with Lisa Frischemeier) andChild’s Play(a curated storytelling show exploring childhood experiences in sexuality), with a cabaret/art installation about menstruation scheduled for May 2020 and a storytelling show featuring sex workers’ own voices in June 2020. I facilitate workshops about telling stories, hosting, and creating safer spaces around unsafe topics.''

People have foolishly opened the doors to adults who should not be within a million miles of children. Back in the 1980s PIE were quite rightly hounded out of society. I don't think that would happen now. Now they seem to be pushing at an open door. Sad

I think that in general there is a default expectation of standards and regulations and safeguarding, "health and safety gone mad" type of thing. So we assume that people who are in charge of things will be following a lot of regulations, so it doesn't occur to people to even question things like this a lot of the time.

Thinkingabout1t · 14/03/2020 19:31

So it starts with Drag queen story time, and now they say themselves the aim is for adults to learn how to "introduce the kids to the wilder side of life". Could they be a bit more blatant, perhaps put up a big sign saying Paedophiles Welcome? Just in case there’s anyone who hasn’t got the message?

stillathing · 14/03/2020 19:51

If any of them actually had kids they'd know small kids generally bring their own "wild side of life". Not in a sexual way. But if you don't expose them to too much sexism and homophobia, small kids' creativity (costumes, art, songs, play etc) usually knows no bounds and can be wonderfully bonkers.

Best case scenario is these people did have repressed upbringings and mistakenly think all kids do. Worst case scenario is the "wild" they want to introduce kids to is simply sex.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 14/03/2020 19:54

the "wild" they want to introduce kids to is simply sex

Which has no place around kids at all.
