Rules on Women's sports being rewritten

There is a report in the Mail which says the rules on women's sports are being rewritten to allow the entry of trans women.

Documents seen by The Mail on Sunday reveal that Sport England has offered up to £25,000 to consultants to rewrite the competition rules for elite-level sport to take account of transgender issues. The project is being overseen by an LGBT activist who has promoted claims that women raising concerns about trans policies are ‘hate groups.' The changes are likely to fuel concerns among sportswomen and feminist campaigners that male-bodied competitors will be allowed to dominate women’s sports

Insanity. It’s not the worst thing, on a level with medical experiments on children. But given the popularity of professional sport as entertainment, it’s a very visible bit of triumphalism. And a warning to girls not to get their hopes up.

SadlyMissTaken · 08/03/2020 08:26

Why has responsibility for this been given to a single bearded wokebloke? I suspect the outcome has already been decided.

Languishingfemale · 08/03/2020 08:29

Of course handing over women's sport to mediocre men is being overseen by a man. And of course that man decides that women protesting are part of hate groups and should not be allowed to be part of democratic discussions.
Because that is the only way this gets through - via secrecy and if that doesn't work, bullying and intimidation.

Thinkingabout1t · 08/03/2020 08:35

From the Mail story The project is being overseen by Labour Party member Jamie Hooper. Last month, he used his Twitter account – which clearly identifies him as an official of Sport England, a public body – to promote the Labour Trans Rights pledge card, which calls feminists ‘hate groups’ and demands their removal from the party.

In international sport, transwomen have already taken numerous medals and trophies, and set records that no woman has a chance of breaking. Women have been injured by massive players in contact sports. With no chance of excelling against male-bodied competitors, girls will be losing interest in sport — undoing the good work of sporting role models in getting teenagers more physically active.

Fairplayforwomen.com has lots of background on this.

It's quite incredible, isn't it? If trans women are allowed access to previously sex segregated women's sports, this will have a significant impact upon women's competition. Why is someone who is clearly motivated to promote the interests of only one side of this in charge of drafting the guidelines? Isn't the exclusivity of women's sports stipulated in the GRA?

Isn't that indicative of partisan bias and bigotry which should disqualify him from drafting any legislation affecting women's sports?

I read they are starting this at grass roots. So like local sports clubs

This is going to be very popular indeed I can imagine 🤦‍♀️

Women are not just men with low testosterone ffs

SoldiersinPetticoats · 08/03/2020 08:48

Hang on, is this the review that we discussed here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3823037-Sport-England-tender-to-review-and-redraft-guidance-on-trans-inclusion

Does that mean a Sport England employee won the tender?

Kit19 · 08/03/2020 08:51

The problem is grassroots sports clubs are run by volunteers who do it because they love their sport. Running them takes up loads of time & having worked with some the amount of emails on everything from organising fixture lists to maintaining equipment to grass cutting to members of the public complaining about floodlights have to be seen to be believed

The vast majority will not have picked this up as an issue and if sport England targets them they are highly unlikely to push back, they won’t want the hassle plus they need the grants

SoldiersinPetticoats · 08/03/2020 08:51

I’m trying to think how trans inclusion works at a grassroots level. Surely it’s going to have to be different for different sports? For example, a cycling club will have a series of rides at different speeds/lengths which is inclusive to anyone with the required ability regardless of sex but a football/rugby club is going to have real issue as they have single sex team post 12 years old.

Kit19 · 08/03/2020 08:52

@SoldiersinPetticoats yes it is - as I read it Jamie hooper who works for sports England is overseeing the review and will work with whoever is appointed

However I think it’s fair to say he’s not coming at it from a neutral position.....

SoldiersinPetticoats · 08/03/2020 08:54

Kit19 I don’t know. We live in a semi rural area, gloriously un-woke. I think the parents would have a real problem if a trans girl rocked up wanting to play/change with the teenage girls.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/03/2020 08:59

It needs Scientists, not activists. Even children can work out that, on average, the boys are broader, taller and stronger, especially after puberty. Boys and girls even have different growth charts as babies.

Doesn't matter how much make up, high heels and dresses you wear, it doesn't change your muscular skeleton system. Or your lung capacity.

Thinkingabout1t · 08/03/2020 08:59

BovaryX, funny how a woman can lose her job for tweeting, on her personal Twitter account, that men aren’t women.

But a man whose employer is committed to equal rights can call feminists a ‘hate group’ (putting them at risk of aggression by activists) and demand action that would undermine Sport England’s efforts to bring girls into sport — and that’s OK?

mcduffy · 08/03/2020 09:02

Is the LGBT activist commissioning this by any chance Jamie Hooper, who got the job after the trans policy launch at British Swimming?

Sorry cross posted whilst I was googling Blush

OhHolyJesus · 08/03/2020 09:06

So wait...

Sports England put out to tender and then selected one of their own? Isn't there something wrong here?

BovaryX · 08/03/2020 09:08

It's extraordinary. The 'progressive' movement is leading the rapid, regressive march backwards of women's rights. The useful idiots enabling this, aka craven, pandering politicos, deserve nothing but contempt.

Soldiers I expect what would happen is that most of the parents would be ‘don’t be daft’ but some of them would be “be kind”.
We know the usual response to“no” from TRA is to go instantly nuclear so there would be letters/emails to anyone and everyone with a bit of influence. pressure will be brought to bear subtly or not so subtly. The volunteers would ask their sports governing body or local council for advice. These have already been captured so their advice will be “be kiiind” as well

With everything else they have to do the committee running the club find that enormous amounts of time and mental energy is being drained away by this issue. In the end they say ‘ok’ because it’s easier and they just want to run a sports club

I wish it was as simple as just saying no but having been involved with grass roots sport, sadly I don’t think it is

grafittiartist · 08/03/2020 09:12

Happy women's day eh Angry

mcduffy · 08/03/2020 09:14

My understanding is that JH is overseeing the project rather than being the £25k contractor?

SoldiersinPetticoats · 08/03/2020 09:16

Women of MN, this IWD will be best spent emailing Sport England.
